In Paul Winstanley we trust. Done quite well so far.

I thought it'd be interesting to have a look back at Chris' previous signings when managing in the Premier League. He has had 3 seasons buying players there, 1 with Newcastle and 2 with Norwich.

Looking at the past I reckon we'll be looking to:

1. Bag a couple of frees from this list (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/endendevertraege/wettbewerb/GB1) Obviously the top of that list is made up of players way our of our league (Cazorla, Navas, Zlatan etc. :lolol:). EDIT Perhaps some players from relegated Premier League teams - someone like Jermaine Defoe would seem like an ideal signing.

2. Pick up some top level Championship players from the past season. Tom Cairney I know has been mentioned by a few, his availability will depend a lot on what Fulham do in the play offs. Perhaps we'll be the team to try and sign Will Hughes in the Premier League. Pontus Jansson seems to be highly rated at Leeds. I'm sure there will be a lot of Championship players we're looking at.

3. Try and get lucky with some young up and coming players from Ligue 1 or the Eredivisie (Hopefully not any more Manus!). When I mean get lucky I'm sure we'll do a lot of due diligence on any signing but with these sorts of signings it seems you can never be sure how successful they'll be. Does the NSC hive have any names to throw in to the hat?

4. A standout performer from the Scottish Premier League. Moussa Dembele is a wonder kid and way out of our reach, perhaps Scott Sinclair or someone like Liam Boyce who has scored over 20 goals for mid table Ross County (although it's very hard to take this League seriously!)

5. A wild card signing from the MLS or Latin American leagues.

EDIT 6. A couple of high quality loans from a Premier League team such as Tammy Abraham.

Well, Ricky van Wolfswinkel is a black mark against him in the transfer business - but then again, Sir Alex Ferguson signed Juan Sebastian Veron and Massimo Taibi!

I think I'm right in saying that most Norwich supporters were over the moon when they got RVW, and most pundits thought it a great bit of business, but 20/20 hindsight had kickedvin by about Christmas.

Michaël Seri, Ricardo Pereira and Wylan Cyprien have had good seasons at Nice. Might be under the radar enough for us even though they're having a stand out season in lige 1. Their goalkeeper Cardinale is highly rated too. Monaco are only meant to be letting a couple of players go and

Alarmingly Ricky van Wolfswinkel is the joint second top scorer in the Eridivisie with 18 goals...

Hakim Ziyech from Ajax would be immense.

The Nice boys are a great shout, all 3 excellent players especially Pereira. Cyprien talented but out til Christmas with a knee injury.

ManU supporters wet themselves with joy when they paid a record breaking £28M for Veron. They also got it wrong.

That's a good point. The chief scout was a Scottish bloke named Ewan Chester (who I believe also joined the Albion in 2015 before going back for a second stint at Birmingham). From my very limited research it doesn't seem that Norwich had a director of football or similar so I presume that the signings were under Hughton's authority. He obviously had a good relationship with Ewan as he took him from Birmingham to Norwich to the Albion.

Great thread
We need 6..... 2 from the Championship, 2 from abroad and 2 loans from PL clubs

Chris and the recruitment team would appear to be considerably more cosmopolitan.

Do you bookmark these threads for a later date ?
No I mentioned it early, in the Chris Wood thread, by way of justifying CH being more likely to spend millions on English football experienced talent. :shootself: :wrong:
