:jester:

Congratulations to everyone who got their results today. I'm sure you all had to work damn hard for them, and I, personally am very proud of every one of mine because of the work I had to put in. Take no notice of the dickheads who thinks the exams are getting easier.

I'll admit they (the qualifications) don't mean as much as they used to, but that's simply because today, more people have the oppertunity to go to College/Uni.

Well done one and all.

I'd just like to point one thing out, that it isn't "easier" for students these days, I'll give you my experience from 10 years ago which shows how things have changed.

I was ill during my A Level exams and got very bad results. I got into a London Polytechnic (which didn't care what my results were).

Got pissed off with that after a year and went back to my local authority and said I fancied something else. After paying a full grant for year, I got into a big University up north and they paid a full further THREE years grant.

I got in the University based upon my Poly results (so much for A Levels), and the local authority effectively wrote off the first year.

When I was in London the student grants had just started. I didnt need it but took it out anyway because of the low interest and bought a stereo.

For the further three years I took out the full loan. Can't remember what the full figure was - but I finished paying it back last year at about 30 quid a month.

I ended up with a 2:1 doing less work than I had done at school.

I got by because I bought a very early PC (pre windows and the internet) , and this gave me a massive advantage over those who hand wrote their essays.

Relatively easy in all - I understand things have changed somewhat :( :(

I did my A-levels in 1991. Exactly the same stories were coming out then. 'oooh they're too easy these days blahfuckingblah'

Ignore it.

Well done again to everyone who got what they wanted. To those who didn't it certainly ain't the end of the world.

Well done Biscuit.

I didn't do quite so well, but I still got into the uni I wanted to.
I got a B, a C and a D.
I thought I was going to get a B,B and C, but hey, I can't help it if a teacher tells me I've done better than I actually have.
:lolol: :lolol: :lolol:
when i was doing my psyhology a-levels, my teacher kept giving me 'A''s. I thought i was a 'psychological' genius because no matter how little work i did, or how little effort i put into my work i would get an 'A', or at worst a 'B'. It wasn't until the day before the exam that my teacher told me that actually my work was of a 'C' standard and that he'd been giving me 'A''s to 'encourage' me and 'give you confidence'...
I didnt get close to an 'A' in my exam... :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

I don't think think th exams themselves have got an easier but what has happened is that the system of marking has changed. When I did mine (1975) a certain percentage had to fail, accordng to the Guardian yesterday this was 30%. In theory then, a candidate could get 89% and still fail if 70% of the candidates got 90%: total madness.

That system was abolished some time in the 80s but that's one reason why there seems to be a steep increase. The exams are as tough as they ever were but at least they're marked sensibly now.

Oh, and well done Biscuit, top marks. Now you can enjoy the rest of the summer.
