Sad news.

Morten Harket, the lead singer of Norwegian band A-ha, whose "Take On Me" track remains one of the most popular songs from the 1980s, said on Wednesday that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

In a statement on the band's website, and confirmed by record label Sony Music, Harket, 65, said he had undergone several rounds of brain surgery and that he was managing the symptoms of the disease.

Sad to hear. One of pop's greatest vocalists in a criminally underrated band

Incredibly sad. Hopefully many years for Morten before it becomes debilitating.

Beautiful voice, amazing pop band.
A mate of mine got an implant that sent electrical impulses near the motor centre. He had stopped travelling because the PD had got really bad (he lived in Switzerland). After the implant I went with him to see his son's band play in Camden. This was more than 10 years ago. The implant took away his tremor and (because he never took his L-DOPA after midday) his wild arm swings in the evenings. It gave him back his confidence. Unfortunately it badly affected his short term memory. He was diagnosed when he was in his early 60s and lived on into his early 70s.

My best wishes to sufferers, or folk with affected family.
