A glimpse of England's Euro 2012 base in Krakow

Gdansk to Donetsk would be a fairly interesting trip. Is that possible with any of the groups?

I admire the optimism of the Mayor of Krakow, who told the press yesterday that, amongst other attractions, the WAGS would be sure to find plenty of "historic buildings" and "interesting museums" in his beautiful city.

Now I don't want to get bitchy here, but what do you think the odds are of Abby Clancy being spotted in a museum any time this decade?

I have visions of them being bussed around Auschwitz and one of the WAGS expressing sorrow for the former inmates on the grounds that the camp uniform wasn't from Juicy Couture.

I like the look of Krakow and the Hotel Stary...but the training facilities could do with a bit of improvement!

FYI the host cities are:

Krakow, being in south Poland, is fairly close to the middle.

They'd rather be staying in Krakow than anywhere in Ukraine, believe me. I have relatives in Krakow and it's a great place. The stadium England are using is Hutnik's, Krakow's third club, so somewhat basic, but the hotel is lush.

Not quite as bad as some of the journeys in South Africa, but the equivalent of Glasgow to Lisbon. Someone's bound to have to do it. Bet it's not Germany though ...

Yet they are probably the nation with the best knowledge of that route.

England tried the small village optiion at the world cup if you remember. And John Terry and co spent all tournament bleating that they were bored.

Our footballers are cultural peasants in the main though. If you sent me to South Africa under the guise of "work" I can think of dozens of sights I'd want to visit, places to explore. England footballers, however, won't look at Krakow and think "oooh, the rare chance to pay a sobering and educational visit to the site of one of humankind's most terrible atrocities", they'll be wondering what time the next game's on TV and why Coley and Wayne keep hogging the PS3 (and "I wish this tournament was in Dubai").

You can definitely see it happening - along with a flurry of Tweets complaining about the absence of a proper Coffee franchise in the joint: not to mention the lack of fridge magnets on sale...
