It was definitely the defining moment of our generation.

The image I can't shake is the front page of The Mirror of the NY fireman battling his way up the stairs to try and reach the survivors. Balls of steel. Miraculously he survived.

And that documentary made by the (I think) brothers that takes place mainly inside the towers in the surreal grey dust-laden mayhem. Utterly alien. And the swishing sound of bodies falling all around them and hitting the ground outside will stay with me forever.

Dreadful !

But how come this has taken so long to be released?
The relative may not have felt to release it to the public until now, plus Youtube is relatively new. I only discovered Youtube 6 months ago!

It is really upsetting scenes, and will probably live through my memory, even being 11 at the time throughout my life like WWII dominated my grandparents past.

I am very superstitious over the 9/11 attacks because what is the AMerican number for emergency services?911.Also,only found these a couple of days ago but when you think about it,it really is a bit freaky. It is believed that the face of satan himself is inside the flames of the crash.Could be doctored or just a coincidence but it is a bit strange

All emergency services' audio from the day was released into the public domain a few months back.

It's taken a while for someone to put it to video and upload it to Youtube, that's all.

I was off work at the time and was watching some crap on TV when they cut in with a news flash. I spent the rest of the day watching in shock.

Like Woodchip said it will be remembered the same way as JFK was. Even though the London bombings were closer, the visual effect of 9/11 was so much more then 7/7 where most of it was underground.

I was at home too, as I happens, on the PC, when a colleague of mine IMd me with the words "Switch on the news"

I just sat there, agog, trying to take it in, only 11 months earlier, my wife and I had been standing on the very top of the tower.

After watching and listening to that call just now, words fail me. You simply cant imagine what it must have been like, too awful for words.

It sounds like he thought he'd be rescued.Even if you knew a plane had hit you probably wouldn't think they would collapse, hence he sat on the phone till the final minute telling them to get a move on.

Glass Case of EMOTION
The day will forever stay in my mind. it shocked me to the core, and I am still deeply saddened and shocked that nearly 5 years has passed.

I have since been to New York, 3 times in fact, and have stood outside ground zero. There is just a horrible deathly numbing silence, and there are still people crying.

In case any of you didnt know, in the courtyard of the world trade centre area, there was a golden globe. This had both towers fall on it, and was recovered in the recovery operation months later. It is now stationed in battery park, at the tip of Manhatten Island, where there is also an eternal flame burning. Here is a picture I took on my recent visit to NYC....

and this is where it stood in the forecourt.....

We also lost a member of the Brighton family, in that attack, Mr. Robert Eaton, and whilst he will never be forgotten by many good people on this board, the whole day will never leave my memories. God Bless You All. :(

In which attack did Mr.Eaton die?Was he in a plane or was he in the WTC?

WTC

We played Southampton that night and I remember stopping at a Chinese take-away on the way back and looking in disbelief at the images that were still coming through.

Awful, awful day

That's the answer I was looking for, the vital piece of information I neglected. You just wouldn't expect them to completely collapse like a pack of cards, even if a plane had hit.....

His main concern was that his oxygen might run out because of the worsening smoke. I don't think the guy ever imagined the tower was going to collapse

I started at Hove Park Upper School that day, and I was coming back to my friends house to pick my bike up. When we got to the door, her sister rushed to the door and said Quick come inside you wouldn't believe what happened. We rushed inside to the living room and we saw the images on the TV, I was in absolute shock. I thought it was something out of a film, truely horrific. :( :(
