It was 'Ain't half hot Mum'

Colonel Reynolds had the affair with [Daphne?] Waddilove-Evans.

Donald Hewlett played Reynolds.

I'm sad.

This one will get you.

A very little known series on BBC2, c1980, The Little World of Don Camillo. Which now very famous actor played the Communist Mayor, Peppone ?

Cor, that is obscure, have a vague memory of it though, no idea who the actor was

Ha, just looked it up, remember it now, but as I looked it up, I'll keep it to myself.

I absolutely loved the program. When I was on holiday in Lanzarote last summer, we found an Italian restaurant called Don Camillo's. Turned out the owner was the nephew or something of the author of the original books, Giovanni Guarreschi (sp). I've still got the books and read them every now again.

It was the massive, loud, beardy fella, whose bloody name I can't remember.

He played the Gungan king 'Boss Nass' in Star Wars Ep.1

Ooh, I do know that one - it was BRIAN BLESSED.
The show was okay, but very hard to live up to just how glorious the books are. Everyone should read them.
The BBC did a Radio 4 series based on them a few years ago, Don Camillo and Peppone played as gruff down-to-earth Northerners. It sort-of worked...ish.
