Brilliant choices. With Split Enz, I loved the well known hit 'I Got You'.

'A Forest' has been mentioned a few times in this thread, which is great .... as not the most played/well known Cure track.

I could probably pick 50 rather than 5 and not be able to put them in any sort of order, so 5 off the top of my head.

Depeche Mode - Shake the Disease
Propaganda - Duel
Elvis Costello - Shipbuilding
James - Sit Down
The Cure - Just Like Heaven

Duran Duran - Hungry like the Wolf.
OMD - Enola Gay.
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer.
The Specials - Ghost Town.
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Head On.
Very different genres but I didn't stay a skinhead all through the 80s !

Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode is only JUST a 90s song - it was released in the early months of the 1990s. I think this is a bit of a shame as I think of it as the QUINTESSENTIAL 80s song.

That's only because you are so YOUNG, and what YOU think of as 'quintessentially 80s' is actually just 'late 80s...

A truly magical song.

OK. I've reached the same conclusion as you. As of 16:55, my choices are:

Emma's House - The Field Mice
Destroy The Heart - House of Love
Good Life - Inner City
Purple Rain - Prince & The Revolution
Therese - The Bodines

Was this meant to be UK singles only?

Have you heard I don't know why I love you - House of Love?

I have. Many times. It's a great song, but IMO Destroy The Heart is better - more original, takes more risks than IDKWILY, and the B-sides are brilliant too. I onec played IDKWILY at an indie disco and we all discovered that you can't dance to it.

Destroy the Heart is easily better than IDKWILY. So is just about every single track off the first album.

IDKWILY is a great song. It's just the others are greater... IMO.
