There is supposed to be a restuarant at the top. Anyone know if it's open to the public like the one in the old natwest tower?

That's the Swiss Re building. I delivered some of the computer desks. I had a wander around it and it is very impressive.

Believe there is a top notch restaurant in there.

Telegraph says "But such carping is forgotten at the top — three floors with a restaurant, private dining rooms and, at the summit, under a wigwam-like lattice glazed structure, a bar. Tragically, particularly given the stupendous view, 180 metres up, this dramatic space is only open to Swiss Re and their tenants.

heard a story about a delivery van pulling up on the pavement outside for a delivery round the corner, hazard lights and all that -had half the anti terrorist force surrounding it within minutes!

Entrance is like Gatwick airport security - scanners, metal detectors, etc. Apparently half of the building is empty because of the astronomic rent

It's predecessor was spread around London by the IRA, so I guess they might be kind of nervous.

I look out on this every day Mon-Friday I am suprised it is causing this much excitment now it has been open since 2002 Why Swiss Re cannot payout all thier 9/11 Non Proportional losses is beyond me. The RE before any fools on here gets it wrong, is for Re-insurance.

250 metres from the gherkin, it's fantastic.

the restaurant (stirlings?) is on the ground floor.

given it's a friday and HBB is an insurance wallah he'll probably be in there already...

I'm sandwiched between the Girkhin and Lloyds... not too much hope for me in the event of a British 9/11 (those two buildings probably being high on the list of targets).

Not been in the Sterling myself, but Mrs Shirty was in there a couple of weeks ago and had to pay about £12 for two glasses of wine.:censored:

I work opposite the Gherkin in the Lloyds building

Only the 1st 14 floors are Swiss Re. The other 19 floors are virtually empty.

Norman Foster, who you can imagine is a bit embarrassed by this, had a hairbrained suggestion recently about converting it to residential flats.

Great building though, but more of an architectural than commercial success so far

Will take a look at it now as I'm offski to catch my train to Bri'on.
