The commentators couldnt work out why a freekick was given
against Welbeck. One of them said he might have been offside ffs

Surprised the ref knew the rule, bearing in mind he didn’t have a clue about the others.
I was hoping Welbeck scored the rebound and the goal given so we could enjoy the hullabaloo afterwards!

who?, up and over the bar Lallana ???

He’s becoming a bit annoying.
Another rallying call after the final whistle yesterday.
Yet during the game he was generally in the shadows again.

The three most experienced penalty takers on the pitch were Maupay (11 goals 2 missed), Gross (10 goals 3 missed) and Trossard (8 goals 2 missed)... all of which who had probably had some pretty ****ing dark thoughts walking up to that penalty spot. Welbeck or Lallana were probably the best options aside of those three, with their experience. And imo Welbecks penalty was better than Gross. Hitting the post or having the goalie save it is one thing but I'm allergic to hitting the bar or putting it over it.

Which of our missed penalties was better....I feel a pole coming on :lolol:

Vulture mate, you’ve done it once today and at least three times yesterday. It’s ‘have’ not ‘of’.

Grammar nazi? Yeah, clearly.

aha.. thanks for flagging that. Makes so much more sense now.

I found this absolutely astonishing. I dunno who the commentator was, but I gather the co-commentator was Lee Hendrie. For neither of them to have a clue about the laws of the game when a penalty comes back off the woodwork to the penalty taker without anyone else having had a touch was staggering ignorance. Its not THAT rare an occurrence.

They are absolutely stealing a living.

As for the question of who should take it, I think Gross should absolutely have got back on the horse, he's usually reliable. For him to go hiding, if thats what he did, is disappointing and only reinforces this teams mental frailty in front of goal.

I can remember Harry Kane missing a crucial penalty in front of the Kop a couple of years ago. They got another one just a few minutes later, he stepped up again, and absolutely buried it. THATS the mentality we needed.

Yeah. He is an incredibly talented baller. Even yesterday he did a lovely little run and perfect assist.
But the odd moment isn’t enough to justify the noise, or the wage.
Pipe down, Lallana.

The fact that Maupay wasn’t wrestling the ball off Welbeck tells me all I need to know that he has to be dropped.
He is a striker who is massively struggling in front of goal at the moment, he was until recently also our penalty taker, I would expect any top flight striker to demand the ball in that situation, a free hit from 12 yards, the best chance to get the confidence back, the fact Maupay did not demand the ball is shithouse IMO and not what we need or want from our no 9.
