if we were to folk out an extra 10 k a week we would be able to bring in 2 top class players in, must be worth a risk as in the long run we would make more money staying in this league than going down so 10k would not be a great amount

Over 52 weeks that is £0.5K debt - not really what we want IMHO

stick them on a contract till end of season

Stick who on a contract? ???

Nice idea, but we're lucky all this Falmer extra time isn't TAKING AWAY 10k a week from the playing budget.

Huge budget deficits don't really add up, no matter what George W Bush says.

After last time, my thinking was "nice try, glad we didn't waste loads of dosh trying to stay up."

Falmer and the financial stability of the club are more important.

Quite right. We simply don't have the extra 500,000 to use on players, and even if we did, you can bet your life it would go on a darn-sight more than 2 players!

We do not pay many players NI as they nearly all runa company and then part of the agreement we use their man. i.e Gary Stevens went to Tottenham after the 83 cup final and his company RY sTEVENS WENT TO tOTTENHAM AFTER

£500000 plus signing on fees plus bonuses plus relocation plus National Insurance plus agent fees. Do you know where there is a money tree?

We do not pay NI . Most players run a company and hire their services. e.g. Gary Stevens went to Tottenham after 83 cup final and Gary Stevens Enterprises received a weekly fee for the sevices of Gary Stevens.

When Raymond Bloye was Chairman of Crystal Palace they employed no players. The players were employed as Public Relations Officers of Matthews Butchers who in turn loaned them to Crystal Palace to play football as a PR exercise.

What is the advantage of this?

NI and tax is based on players salary a contract to use the services of somebody takes away this burden and can then be used more accurately in assessing expenditure.

It also means that you pay less for a player. If you went for a new job you look at the money you are going to earn not what it costs the employee to employ you. Simarly a player says I want £250k per year that is what it will cost the club exactly no more no less., and can thus be budgeted for irrespective of government changes to the system i.e NI or Income Tax changes.

This is exactly the sort of dodgy accounting that drives football clubs into administration.

Since it's the PFA who invariably play a role in keeping damaged football clubs alive, I can't believe that these days they would tolerate this sort of nonsense from Club Chairmen.

It's not dodgy accounting it was very shrewd and something that a lot of IT 'consultants' took advantage of therefore saving their employer NI and giving them selves all the tax benefits of paying themselves via the dividend system.

I did think though that the revenue were on to this and its days were numbered
