Not a good week for the French . Two suprise defeats, one for one of the WC rugby favourites and one for the football WC finalists. Oh well

Yeah, but the Sweaties ?

Only joking. Amazingly good result for Scotland and qualification looking distinctly possible.

Already beaten them, home (6-0) and away (2-0).

Do keep up.

Point is though, that its almost a certainty that they will come a cropper to one of the lowly teams, enjoy it while it lasts, you know you've got no chance of qualifying.

why break the habit of a lifetime

On the other hand, you just know that at some point England are going to have to meet a PROPER European team - and will come unstuck. Followed by a shit or bust game against Narnia or whoever. Pathetic.

why break the habit of a lifetime

:D

1. why say 'you'? I'm English
2. the habit of a lifetime for the Scots is to qualify (a better record than England, anyway), but then be shite in the actual finals competition.
3. The relatively easy games have almost all been played (and won). The remaining three games are Ukraine (home), Georgia (away - the easiest on paper) and Italy (home). The big point about tonight's result is that France have to get 3 more points than Scotland to finish ahead of them (from the Faroes away, Lithuania at home & Ukraine away). That last game might well scupper them.

What are you on about, am I taking crazy pills or something,

But off the top of my head since 1978 haven't England qualified for 6 world cups 82,86, 90, 98, 02 and 06, how many have Scotland qualified for, its either 0 or 1. Pretty much the same scenario with the Euros

Conclusion = The habit of a lifetime for Scotland is to fail miserably at every turn.

It would be no surprise to me if they lost all of their remaining games.

To be fair, there was a time when they qualified on a fairly regular basis for the main tournaments.

Except when they got there, they'd inevitably put in a heroic but pointless (and losing) performance against the seeded team in their group (typically Brazil), an utterly humiliating defeat against the so-called minnows (Costa Rica, Iran, Peru) and then a fairly futile point against the group's Mr Average side, lets say Sweden.

Not losing that last game then enables them to salvage a small amount of pride and go home thinking they're not as bad as they are.
