Of course there is no such thing. Ostensibly”stupid” questions can demonstrate the stupidity of the person asking them and are therefore very helpful to the observer.

As a teacher I’ve always taken the view that the only stupid questions are the ones we never ask.

This is where I come from as well. We assume so much knowledge and understanding is shared or implicit in lots of situations when it really isn't, or where a bit of empathy is needed that people might have other stuff going on that distracts them from the obvious (to us).

OK, picture the scene: person A standing next to a massive pile of wooden logs, looking at his phone.

Person B: Whatcha doing?
A: Looking to buy a chainsaw.
B: Why do you want a chainsaw?
*Person A glances at the wood*
A: To chop this firewood.
B: Oh right? What are you going to do with all that?
A: Use it as firewood. For my fireplace.
B: What, ALL OF IT?
A: Yes, I'll keep some in my shed.
B: Why do you want a load of firewood?
A: To keep myself warm in the middle of ****ing winter.
B: It's not that cold, is it?
A: I'm wearing two pairs of gloves, a duffle coat and the air is condensing as I reply to your StUpId QuEsTionS.

*Person C waltzes in*
C: Is that your wood?

What time does the 10 o'clock bus leave???

If it's five past ten and the bus is still sitting at the stop it ceases to be a stupid question. Innit.
