That's a tough time you're going through. I'm glad to hear that things are slowly improving.
Top work by your daughters, you've clearly instilled good qualities in them!

Have you been offered diazepam by the doctors in the hospital, NB? It's used for tremors and any anxiety you said you were feeling. It is addictive as it takes away any problems you may be worrying about for a while so I'm sure they'd offer only a small amount for a couple of weeks at the most.

Also wanted to say please keep posting even if the spelling and punctuation isn't Shakespeare! It's all about letting out your feelings and concerns. When it comes down to it, NSC is the very best!

Take care pal.

Hopefully I have a few friends on here so this is to explain my recent absence from NSC. In late October I had two seizures in the middle of the night. We had paramedics, the fire brigade, the full emergency service. I spent 6 weeks in ICU, had a tracheostomy and feeding tubes and was hooked up to an oxygen machine. It was all touch and go for a while. After what happened last year it was obviously traumatic for the family. I realized how serious it all was when I lost interest in the Albion. My wife visited every day and set up the commentary for the games we were missing and I found myself not caring. Can you imagine that ? We had tickets for the game at Anfield which I had been looking forward to. I was proud of my daughters for going to the game and watched the video they made for me last night. I was first able to hold a phone a couple of days ago and a little disappointed that we had missed the windows for tickets at Old Trafford and Goodison. Brilliant news though that my daughter had bought us tickets for Old Trafford when I was in a coma :) Pretty punchy considering it could have gone either way ! Definitely something to work towards with my physiotherapy.
Anyway, there is purpose to this story. I now find typing quite difficult and end up with about 12 m’s in half my words. This post has taken a long time to write ! I’m not planning on being a very prolific poster anymore and traveling down for home games has suddenly become impossible as I can’t drive for a very long time.
Take care of yourselves and don’t stress about anything. It’s not worth it. Also be thankful about our wonderful nursing, specialist consultant staff and everyone else in our wonderful NHS.
Up the Albion !

As someone who is also going through difficult times healthwise I can most definately echo your sentiments re our NHS. I have never had to really experience it all before but my goodness what a dedicated, considerate and entirely selfless service they perform ... I have nothing but the deepest respect.

Very best wishes for yur recovery which I hope will result in the rekindling of your Abion interest and getting to games in the not too distant future

Thank you for your kind words mate. So much kindness on this thread. I’m happy to admit I have been in tears quite a lot over the last few weeks, especially when the hospital had to restrict visiting hours and numbers of visitors because of Covid. My whole day centred around spending time with my wife so the restrictions were a kick in the teeth. You are right about NSC. I have found this thread very moving over the last couple of days as well. I’m not a big user of the internet in general but our little community is important. We will soon be back at the northern away games but the Amex seems a very challenging journey.
As to diazepam, the answer is yes. My wife explained to the specialists all about my anxieties that first morning when she and the rest of the family spent around 8 hours in the waiting room and talking to me in my coma. I have had diazepam most days until my discharge. That and the sleeping tablets have knocked me sideways which is probably what I needed. Having never taken any form of drugs before perhaps there has been a disproportionate effect on me ! I have been determined to wean myself off though and didn’t ask for any when I had my MRI scan yesterday. I will make full use of follow up psychological care and, as you say, express my feelings more. Most of all I’m not going to worry about anything and if this thread has helped anybody realise they need to stop stressing then I will be happy.
Take care of yourself mate. I’m afraid I couldn’t resist correcting my spelling errors. Too ingrained not to !

Just picked up on this. Take care of yourself NB and let's hope you're on the road to recovery.

I've been the other side of it as Mrs Gwylan has been in hospital for a few days. She was rushed in last week and has just been discharged with orders to rest. The care and attention that she got from the NHS was first class - from the ambulance crew to the nursing staff, she's been well looked after.

We're more fragile than we think

Standards. Things like this are very important. Even if they take longer than usual to maintain.

I suspect you are smart enough to take your time, neither stuck in inertia nor rushing too fast. Steady does it.

That means a lot Bry. Small positive steps every day enabled by family, sleep and home comforts. The complete draining of energy is still one of the biggest issues but that’ll teach me not to lie around in bed for a couple of months ! The Tracheostomy scar is taking a while to heal but I couldn’t ask for more in terms of ongoing support from the hospital. The Oldman you asked about the move from East Anglia to Merseyside. It’s been a brilliant move. Liverpool is an absolutely crazy city. One of my daughters went with her boyfriend to one of those food courts surrounded by pubs. Next morning she said to me ’Dad, they were fighting the bouncers at 8 pm ! My wife and I also have been out on a Tuesday night in the City Centre and experienced what would be a Saturday atmosphere in most places (more the normal friendly scouse night out though !). My daughters went to a pub near Anfield when we played there and asked the bouncer if away fans were allowed. The bloke said he was happy to let them in as he was an Everton fan and ‘f ing hated Liverpool !’ I’m more than happy to give occasional updates and appreciate all the support. I hope you and yours are all well and you are enjoying the quite bizarre situation we find ourselves in of supporting a top ten PL team !!
