Spanish keepers seem to emerge early with big Bob, Unai Simon both being early twenties, de Ge making his debut at Atletico Madrid s a teeneager and Kepa being a young gun. And of course there's Casillas who made his debut for Real when he was about 7.

I wonder what it is that makes them establish themselves so young?

Like you say De Gea was just a teenageer when he made his Atletico debut at 18 in the Champions League, by the end of the season he was already established as their number 1 at 19 years old. A year later United signed him at 20 and he became their first choice keeper.

He made a few mistakes early on, and the memory of those blindsided pundits to his improving performances. Along with Neuer and Buffon, he looked the best goalkeeper around up until a few seasons ago, when his form has dipped and goalkeepers with new skillsets have come through (Alisson, Ederson, Donnarumma and, for me the best of the lot, Oblak).
