We tried hard to sign Darwin Nunez last summer. He is currently being touted as a successor to Aguero at Man City.

He chose Benfica over us, even though we reportedly offered him more money. We are good at identifying the players we need, but really good strikers that would improve our team prefer to join better known and established teams. That's life.

That's why we end up taking a punt with someone like Maupay from the Championship.

4 goals in the league in Portugal this season... but even if Man City are serious, he was never going to join a PL club. Better for them if they sign him from abroad

One things for sure, if you're a young, promising striker looking to make a name for yourself at the top level, we must be an attractive proposition. A talented, confident striker must look at our games and think they could score buckets of goals.

I always remember when Murray came back, him saying that one of his main reasons was that he looked at the players we had creating chance and putting crosses in and he thought he would be able to score a lot of goals. Surely other strikers must look at us and think the same.

Bang on.

This should be the selling pitch to players like Brewster, Tammy, Nunez et al.

With this manager in this team, we are going to give you a ton of chances each game for you to make a name for yourself, fill your boots.

Brewster ! That 25 million or whatever has worked out well for Sheff Utd hasn't it. Imagine the stick he would have had he signed for us. Andi Zeqri was the striker of choice by Potter and doesn't even play him.
Even 50 million does not guarantee goals - ask Chelsea

Zeqiri clearly one for the future, he’s so young.

And agreed - Werner comments on move to PL, and he was scoring for fun in Germany

Tony Bloom's club = Tony Bloom's call. Maybe he's happy with relegation and being asset-stripped of our least worst players. Don't make much odds to us time-servers, other than the queues will be shorter

This. On the BT Sport commentary of the Barca v PSG game the other night they mentioned that Barca had made an offer for him last summer too.

A lot of posters have pointed out the obvious piece of the jigsaw missing and I can't believe that anyone doubts that a proven premier league striker would make all the difference to us and get us into the top half of the table. So taking proven premier league strikers who have scored 10 or more this season and last season we have Salah, Kane, Son, Vardy or Calvert Lewin.

So it's really just a simple case of deciding which one would suit Potterball most and then deciding who we need to sell to fund it - simples :)

Maybe we should sign a couple of them in case of injuries?

Do people seriously believe that anyone in the hierarchy doesn't think we need an upgrade of our strikers? Identifying a problem and fixing it are two completely different things.

Ivan Toney probably has suitors with more cash than us.. next off the Brentford conveyor belt of strikers.

I saw they've just offered a 5 year deal to Marcus Forss as his understudy.
We do centre backs, they do strikers it seems.

It was so blatantly obvious last summer, and I said we should've gone for him at under 10 mill. Probably wouldve got him too as we are a PL club. I know we dont have money to burn, but 9 mill for Toney and we hand select a loan in the championship with a Jan recall option was logical imho.

As it is now, Brentford will trouser another easy 10 mill+

Interesting Sidwell said last night we had finances for a striker and didn’t get one in. I hope this wasn’t Potter thinking he could coach goals out of our current crop of donkeys.

We have strikers. Maupay, Andone, Welbeck, Locadia to name 4 of them. We were all happy when we brought these. What's to say we did spend upwards of £40 million on a striker, is that going to guarantee him scoring 20 plus goals a season?
If we were to break up this up and coming squad by selling our good players to fund this striker, some of the posters will start saying we lack ambition by not keeping star players.

Maybe we should have spent big in getting Joelinton because going by what Newcastle have achieved with him is amazing.
If only Football was as easy as signing the biggest cheque to get you goals. Let's just be thankful that we have a team to SUPPORT.
