There are no laws preventing the naming of a person who is arrested, or even suspected, except for MPs.

ok, so there are no laws but the police policy is not to name anyone arrested. until 2016 MP's arrested where announced in the house, that was changed so they are the same as rest of the public.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a bit of Brexit bashing. Its wearisome to think that we have got years of this ahead of us.

Where does it say he campaigned for Remain?

His own website claims 'People here in Dover and Deal voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU in the 2016 referendum. Now over three years since the vote, it’s time to get Brexit done and move forward.

We should have left ages ago. At every turn I have voted to leave and make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead for our nation.

Seems odd also then that he is listed as a subscriber to the ERG! (well he was until his unfortunate court case!)

Don't worry once the racist (Trump not Boris) gets voted out Brexit negotiations will be a breeze with America, good times are only round the corner.

You are absolutely correct, nothing to do with his stance on Brexit, he campaigned to remain.
I've no idea whether he campaigned for Brexit or not. It's irrelevant, except to a few people who want to tag anything bad on to Brexit to make a rather futile political point. If he is found guilty of a sexual offence, then he will be a sex-offender who has been found guilty; equally guilty (or innocent if that's what te courts decide) whether he was pro-Brexit or pro-remain.

Agreed; it's getting very tiresome.

More details released as Charlie Elphicke awaits sentencing, including trying to get a cabinet minister to lobby Johnson to help him.

I think you'll find that should read 'Sex offender found guilty'. He wasn't convicted of anything involving Brexit - in fact Brexit has nothing whatsoever to do with his conviction.

Oh sorry - I didn't realise you were making a futile political point. Carry on ...........................

on "fruition", he shouts, "BREXIT"

Not according to his website.

I think you have read that slightly incorrectly.
The page you linked yourself
https://www.elphicke.com/news/lets-get-brexit-done-and-move-forward
does actually say

"At the referendum I backed Remain, because I thought a major project like Brexit might be too complicated for our system to cope with. Sadly, events have rather underlined that view. Yet the vote was had, people here voted overwhelmingly to leave and it is my democratic duty to deliver on that mandate.
What is happening in Parliament is the opposite. They are trying to cancel Brexit. This is not simply undemocratic. It is nothing less than an attempt to subvert the will of the British people."

Before the referendum The Guardian and BBC had him listed as on record to be a remain voting MP,.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35616946
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...23/how-will-your-mp-vote-in-the-eu-referendum

After the vote he was insistent that the vote outcome should be respected (even though he had been remain) and accepted, because of the instruction, that we should indeed Leave. He was 100% against those MPs that wanted the opposite of the result and wanted to scupper Brexit and who were scheming to have us remain instead.
