That leaves a lot of gym goers having to go and find new gyms.

There’s not really a suitable gym in Lewes.

Maybe someone should take over the lease of the now empty Land Rover showroom in Lewes and open a new gym

As someone who goes to Brighton at 5am for the gym as the only time I can fit it in I've often hoped one of the 24 hour gym chains would open in Lewes. There's demand enough for 3 or 4 gyms already, loads of commuters who'll want to go outside usual opening hours, loads of students, police HQ and council so a lot of people work in the town, and lots of people who travel to Falmer or further for their gyms.

If I had the requisite know-how and a fairly wealthy backer I would definitely be looking into this.

As you say, Lewes is crying out for a good sized, well equipped gym.

For me the 2 gym options are:

1) Cheap: Pure Gym Burgess Hill
2) Costly: East Sussex National Golf Club near Uckfield

Please come and join Hove Fitness & Squash (formerly Corals, next to the greyhound stadium)

This is now a private business run by 3 directors, Matt who ran the old Corals gym, Lucy who did the classes, and Ben the squash coach.

The bar is now run by one of the members and his wife, excellent food, drink, coffees etc. Club needs new members so you’d be more than welcome if you’re looking for a new fitness home!

Have heard that Brighton University is planning to do nothing with site for 12 months or more. If so seems a real shame to keep a first rate facility closed.

I’ve heard that the University have a budget of around £3m to upgrade, repair or specialise facilities. It looks like work will begin in January or February.

Back to withdean for me. I moved to virgin to start PT sessions and they’re fantastic. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough, my trainer said he’s going to move to the uni gym next door, so I’ll do my normal workouts at withdean, and pay for PT’s.
Withdean are getting a refurb in December, so should be good

1,500? Many will be mature students studying at Leaf Hospital, they are not going to move to Brighton from wherever in Sussex they live.

There is more than enough new bespoke student accommodation to accommodate the rest in Brighton however. There might be more by the time they are all moved over in 2024.

If you are concerned about housing pressure, you’d do well to contact your local MP or councillor and ask them when they are going to start cracking down on HMO’s and returning places like Hanover to family based communities rather than transient accommodation.

There is now enough bespoke new student accommodation in Moulsecoomb and on the Sussex University for the council to start ripping hundreds of HMO licenses from private landlords forcing them to rent to families or sell to families.

It’s not just Hanover and moulsecoomb. It’s Bevendean, Coldean, Hollingdean, Coombe road area, London Road and Lewes Road. How do you know there's enough student accommodation to cope? I doubt that as The Big Build was supposed to reduce pressure for current student numbers in Brighton not a new influx. Brighton and Hove is one of the most unaffordable places in England and moving 1500 FTE students (plus staff) won't help. Purpose built student accommodation is often expensive and 2nd years rather live in houseshares.

I drove that way after the City game …it was the first time in years …completely transformed

But they are only for first years intakes aren’t they? The students then would move out into the community for the next 2 or 3 years?

I live in Higher Bevendean.
Looking out of my window now I can count at least ten houses that are HMO's
I am completely surrounded by students that don't know when to put their bins out or what to put in them !
Twenty years ago they were all family homes.
