Can't help thinking many peoples definition of cult hero is a little skewed. Therefore should not include tile likes of Zamora or Ward.

For me it would be Johnny Crumplin ' football genius' where the monicker morphed from irony to genuine appreciation of his efforts. The unofficial T-shirt lurks somewhere at home. Utter gash and then marked Barnes out of the FA cup game at Anfield and not forgetting the boxing day 30 yard screamer against Burnley?

I suppose the greyhound could have been a cult hero if he'd played a bit more?

Blimey; quite a lot over the period of time I have been following the club.

Top of the list has to be Dick Knight. Without him, we would have no club.

Mullers is the manager of legends.

On the playing side sheesh..........Nobby Horton, Paul Clark, Sully, Wardy, Harry Wilson, Eric Steele, Gary Hart, FDM, Cullip, Bobby Z..........Calde (I can't help it, I just love the wee fella) and El Capitano...

I got enough to form a cult there haven't I?

Not only marked Barnes out of the game, but, nutmegged him as well.
I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

Assuming we're not going for the mainstream actual heroes like Dick Knight, Hart, Zamora, Bruno, I would say..

Robbie Reinelt
Stuart Storer
Johnny Crumplin
PC Beard
That bloke who stormed the pitch on his mobility scooter
The guy with the board
Bas Savage
Phil Stant
Lloyd Owusu
Spanish Dave
Florin Andone (soon to be)

Yes it says so in my post you quoted.

sorry old chap

remember the game well
was standing in the chicken run right next to the Sunderland fans, they were not best pleased to say the least
a Brighton lad was in there with them and had to scramble underneath the fencing to escape

Peter Smith.

I was in with the home fans for the League Cup match at Leicester.

One fan was memorable. Smithy was having his usual scatty match and went on a run all the way down the wing.

The home fan lost his marbles:

"He's still got the ball"

"He's still got THE BALL"

"He's STILL GOT THE BALL"

Cult hero for that incident and many.

I only think of cult heroes as players who weren’t that good but shone when we were shit

Reinalt and Storer for THOSE goals

Jeff Minton and Rod Thomas for making the trips to Gillingham worthwhile

Gary Hart as above but we were lucky enough to have the set of tracksuits player for a much longer time.

Mark Gall, for some reason I thought he was going to be a superstar

Mark Beeney for unwittingly saving the club from going under

I’m sure there are others but the above spring to mind
