Lactose free baby milk, mums and dads some advice maybe

We have asked Dr for ranitidine and they just say no, they say we have to take one of the side effects either the sick or the constipation.

I hate to slag off GPs whilst sitting in my specialist 'ivory tower' but sometimes they are just obstructive.

The sickness is not a side-effect, it is the disease in reflux. Not all reflux results in vomiting but then lots of babies vomit and its completely normal, its only gastro-oesophageal reflux DISEASE if it affects growth or it is painful. Ranitidine will not stop the reflux, it will just make it less painful and thus settle better. Your original description has little in the way of vomiting, therefore, gaviscon is not essential in the management as it is the discomfort that is the main problem.

Its quite appropriate for A&E to send you to your GP. People don't realise that A&E staff are usually the least experienced doctors - most frontline staff are only a year or so out of medical school. GPs are more experienced and most (though not all) will have much more knowledge about children.

Have you seen different doctors at your GP surgery?

I may be being slightly naive here, but my A-level biology textbook says that some people add the enzyme lactase to milk to digest the lactose before drinking?
Might be costly in the long-run, but surely Soya/lactose-free milk is too?

3 say reflux one says not.

One put him on gaviscone, one put him on Movicol also (his now on it now, apparently should never have been given it due to being under 2)

All saying they wont prescribe a lactose free milk and wont put him on ranitidene till see a specialist, we was going to go to the Childrens A&E in Brighton. We spoke to a nurse there yesterday who is a friend of my partners and they said to go there, the nurse spoke to a Dr about my son and he said to take him to the Alex. We called today and they said that the GP needs to sort it out but simply our GP wont give him another medication, until he see's a specialist.

My partner is a nurse and has some understanding and knows he is not right, also the only time he will settle is in a bath.

Little man is now on Neocate, and under the care of the childrens hospital in Brighton, he also has a barium meal on Friday which will be interesting as he cant eat for about 5 hours before and not sure how he will be during the scan
