Brighton factually.....
I am moving to Back to Brighton March the 1st, and have resigned from my job in North London as it is too far to travel to be here by 7.30am in the morning and a 5'oclock finish would not see me home untill 7.30pm. I know this may sound lame to many out there and i expect a bit of abuse over this.

However i have moved to Brighton as i have a four month old daughter and would like a better life for her. My wife works for a central london council and is on much more than me, but is in the middle of 8 months off maternity leave at present.(she has to go back for 6 months at least otherwise will have to repay the maternity pay, before applying for a similar job around sussex)

I am pretty sure i can find work in my line of work, even if i have to go back full time on the tools, However i was just wondering if the worst came to the worst, would i be entitled to any benefits of any kind ? And even if i dont need them when the time lapse arrives after applying should i start just in case? We will own our home, but do not have a massive amount of savings. I have tried looking on cab website and other so called helpfull websites but cant seem to see if i should, could or whatever.

thank you in advance

I doubt you'll be able to claim anything as you have a partner who is earning a wage - they take this into account when assessing your claim.

You may however get your NI contributions credited towards your state pension.

Not an easy one. As you walked out of your job the job centre won't take any pity. They say you walked from a good paid job, so you wont be able to claim, least not straight away.
If your either were sacked or lost your job due to ill health you can claim on the latter - employment and support allowance. If sacked I think you can claim JSA.

Grow a wispy beard, put on a smock, and tell them it was "Gods will" that you give up your job.
You'll be in a four-bedroomed detached before you can say Alluha Akbar.

Seeing as my wife knows the benefits/scam/lazybastard system better than most, she runs a local authority benefits department, I could tell you lots.....but I won't.

So you resign your job, cos the hours might be a bit long, and expect to sponge off me so you can give your child a better way of life? Why not have just a little bit of dignity and keep the job just until you can get another one in Brighton, maybe weeks, or at max six months?

Oh no, you would rather laze about and then have the f**king cheek to ask other hard working tax payers 'How much can I sponge off the state?' You total arse! You are the total epitomy of why as a lifelong Labour voter I now intend to vote Tory and make every other f**ker stand on their own two feet.

Oh, and another thing,, I have kept this as non angry as I can, c**t!

You're a bright fellow by the sounds of it. Don't even dream of claiming benifits as that's for spungers such as fat lazy northerners, socialists and losers. Go and find a job or send the wife back to work and you look after the child whilst she's working.

I see a German court has decided what Chancellor Merkel offers to the poor is anti-constitutional and below what is deemed a comfortable living, which the teutonic constitution demands the state to pay to those not working. Child benefit is £252pcm. Not bad compared to Britain's £90 or so. I say sign on in Germany and drink away any of the extras using those litre-sized glasses they sup anything from. You will also have to remove any fashion sense you've picked up in the last 20 years and start dating slightly manly women. Ying and yang.

PF , have you sent HB&B a PM ? , he will know what benefits you are entitled to as he was claiming JSA based on his NI contributions.

er alright! I claimed 3 WEEKS back in October / November 2008 if you make yourself unemployed you cannot claim for 6 months and have to at least 2 years worth of contributions and no more 16 grand in cash.

I stopped claiming cos they kept asking the most personal and intrusive questions about my wife's finances...........nosey bastards.

It happens to a lot of Labour supporters when they finally realise that they stand for the weak minded and lazy bastards and not the working class they purport to.

wellquickwoody did you read this bit....?

As i say i was wondering what if anything im entitled too ! Not i would ! Just thought it might be handy to know, so i can plan for the future :US:

Is that a crime.... ?

You know feck all about my current job and whats involved etc. I have a company van and things are complicated and the cost in travling would not make it worth while, amongst other things.

I have worked since i left school at 15 working none stop as a floorlayer including being self employed for about 15 years, moving around the country to suit work, and i have never claimed a penny in my life from the state or any other scheme. The only time i have used the system was when my daughter was born in a hospital.... ! Do you want me to refund your share for that im happy to foward you whatever your contribution was to that. But i somehow think that you may have taken more than me in your time. However i could be wrong because i dont know, like you dont know me. You have pissed me off with your assumptions about someone you nothing about.

Thank you to everyone else

If you claim JSA you wont get anything for 13 weeks if you left your job of your own accord. However if you have capital under £16000 not including your house you can claim Council Tax benefit. Sign on for JSA as soon as possible so that they pay your stamp. Your Child Tax Credit should go up and also your Working Tax Credit because technically your wife is still working. If you get JSA they will only pay you for 6 months based on your contributions over the past 2 years but by the sound of it hopefully you will have a job by then. Good Luck
