Graeme Smith is the obvious one Strauss did ok. I'm sure there are plenty of others. I would not disagree with the point you make though. You are right about Vaughan, he batted 3 or 4 as skipper I think.

IIRC Morgan had an excellent start but got totally found out by pace and mystery spin in Abu Dhabi. To be fair, he wasn't the only one. Are Middlesex Div 1?

Captains like McCullum, Clarke, Vaughan and Smith don't grow on trees do they?

I have to agree. However, I haven't seen too much of Morgan recently, has he got rid of that awful imbalancing crouch and is he a little more aware of where his off stump is? Not to mention that Ali is our frontline spinner at the moment.

A big worry as it goes - he's back up to his old tricks. His place starts coming up for debate pretty soon without runs. I love watching Ian Bell bat, he is supremely talented but I can't remeber a more frustrating England batsman since Hick. Just when we thought he'd got there, he looks like...

I hadn't thought about that but you actually make a really good point. i'm not normally keen on bowlers as captains anyway to be honest. I think by paucity of other available options Cook probably has to continue. Now I remember when he went through a terrible trott of from before, he sorted it...

A fair point, though in his defence, I'm not sure Broad has been fit in years. He seems to do ok playing through it. But it would mean we couldn't rest him even if we wanted to.

I think that's another problem as it goes and a BIG problem. Essex are in Div 2 - Cook scored a lot of runs for them earlier in the year but personally I don't think the standard is good enough. Perhaps he might fancy a loan to Sussex? Piolet could go in the opposite direction!

You're right but hand on heart, even when we are past this sticky patch, do you think Moores is the right man? As good a day to day operator he is as coach, I just don't think international cricketers respect him. I don't think they reckon that Moores can improve them. Flower on the other hand...

It's not. The way I see it we have a few options 1) Stick with Cook until the end of this series and hope for the best. 2) Morgan, Broad, Bell or Root (all of whom have issues, personally I think that Broad is the only viable option here at the moment. I don't think Bell wants it) 3) Get on the...

Any idea what his pace is like? If he's back bowling around 85mph, he's got to be a shoe in for this side hasn't he. Experienced, reliable, canny operator.

I think the issue is that in the main the kids are doing alright. It's Cook, Bell, Prior that are really failing, whilst Anderson and Broad have been well below their best.

Stokes will come good - he's a fine player. He scored 100 against an outstanding Australian bowling attack in the winter and his perceived batting strength got him the nod ahead of Jordan. I can see the sense in the decision, it's just that Stokes is horribly out of form with the bat at the...

Wow. What am amazingly naive way to chuck this one away. We are hopeless. Outbowled in British conditions by Sri Lanka and India. Incapable of dealing with pressure when batting.
