    [Travel] Cars and congestion

Its capacity is irrelevant. It's basically a car with a huge back end so it can be called a van for tax purposes. The benefit in kind tax on that is probably less than it would be on the 2CV.

It's probably that big because you can class it as a van and save about £10k per year in benefit-in-kind tax as a company car. Actual cars have been hammered under the BIK regime, but vans (even bogus ones like this) haven't.

    [Travel] Cars and congestion

I reckon there comes a time in life where violent exercise in cold, wet weather is worse for you than sitting in a warm car.

Even with gears, 1 in 7 hill is no joke.

Also, only a 3 year 7 month ban when his entire defence consisted of saying that he "hadn't got the toolkit" to be on the road. Why not a life ban from driving? What evidence is there that he will ever "have the toolkit"?

Do I pull my mother's wheelchair behind the bicycle, or do I sit her in the basket? ;) There are more prosaic reasons to need a car as well. 1. I can't get to Ripon races (or many other places I want to go) for an evening meeting by public transport. 2. To go to work by bus, even Colne to...

    [Travel] Cars and congestion

I've just been in Milwaukee, where buses run from everywhere to everywhere at a maximum of $864 per year if you use them all day and every day. Max $2 per ride, max $4 per day, max $19.50 per week and $72 per month. And from a very quick count of car v bus passengers while waiting for a bus...

That must depend on which town or city. The only time when the bus is preferable for me to go into Burnley, is when there's snow on the road. I don't drive in snow. Brighton, I dare say, is different.

    [Travel] Cars and congestion

There are three main ways to reduce car congestion. One, to make car ownership more expensive so only richer people can afford it. Two, make public transport so good that people prefer it to cars. Three, make car driving so unpleasant that public transport is the better option. One is...
