2010: the year of the iPad / iSlate / Apple tablet (Apple haters move on please...)

Adobe make millions selling applications. they just happen to sell alot to Mac users. they've already sold the existing installations, thats banked. if they drop support for the next installment of Photoshop, and if (big if) its significant enough an upgrade, the users will move to PC for...

would they? what about the money they stand to lose from Flash being pused out of the market? whats the PC installed user base compared to the Mac user base? Theres probably already far larger PC base. The days of these tools being better on Mac have long past and many media companies IT dept...

carefull now, starting to sound like the Apple fanbios who beleive Saint Jobs can do no wrong. i dont like Flash, but its ubiqitous throughout the internet. Its a bold move from Apple to stop its use unilaterally, though frankly i wouldnt be sad to see it go. But Adobe might, and it has...

thats quite true, open systems is a rather nerdy issue that doesnt bother the masses (or rather they dont understand the implcations of it). It does bring much better quality in to the app market too. But mtoto's example above demostrates how Apple may well do themselves harm over the long...

:lolol: "there's an accessory for that" actually the problem was how he balanced it on his arm, presumably so he wouldnt get cramp holding it outwards as he hunched over the device.

how do make that out? i can do just about anything an ipad can with free software on a laptop/netbook. i wait to see how well it sells after the technogeeks and apple fanbois have all bought in. i've seen it in use on a train, it is very slick and i think, i'd like somthing like that...

i saw somthing the other day that adresses this, not sure if it was real or a mock up though. It was a folding sleave/cover that folded out into a vertical stand for watching, or horizontal slopped support for aiding typing/visual angle. in the latter mode it looked like an Amiga, which is...

i've been watching and reading the media in the past few weeks and still fail to see how this is going to revolutionise the world as some claim. i do buy into the idea of a home bound media reader, but thats not how its being sold, its supposed to replace laptops and desktops in some eyes. im...

its quite funny when you read it because, like a lot of fanbois, its basically saying forget all the missing features and fact it doesnt do much that you cant do better with another toy, its by Apple and they are great, the iphone was great, so by extension iPad will be too. i come back to...

what point is that? they created their own processor? well, the author is going a stretch too far to say they are the only company to own their own mobile CPU (all the other major phone/PDA makers do too). he's also a stretching it to suggest this any sort of step change in Apple's business...

i think half the problem there is that Apple and Jobs himself have made that claim. in the bulidup to this product they have slated netbooks and said their new product would solve the short comings of netbooks and capture this space. for the last time, the apple brand is driven by these...

its when it goes fully mobile it loses a lot. why not have a proper portable DVD player for under £100 and a eink ebook reader for £200. two best of breed items for less. thats the flaw for me, its jack of too much and nothing compelling. i really was hoping this would be a decent...

so literally around the house. i can see how that can work, several problems arent there if you use it like this. im not sure thats the intended market, or maybe it is and i've assumed its supposed to be a generally portable device.

this is the problem in a nutshell. ipod, iphone (and smart phones), imacs (and PCs), macbook (and generic laptops) all serve a specific purpose. they all appeal to non-geeks too because the funtion is very worthwhile. ebooks like the Kindle are starting to take off as people see the benefit...

and thats being generous. doesnt multitask (basic PC function since window 3.1) and apparently doesnt run Flash, which could be a bonus making many sites ad free, but means those sites arent exactly going to be keen to attract iPad viewers. the very first impression i had was, too big. its...

all things you can do on any other similar device. i dont think i put my point correctly, i mean technical abilities, apps can be deployed to any other device and some may well be superior but people will flock to the iphone anyway. just like itunes was the real story of ipod, app store is the...

this is probably true. but it is also true that most people buy the iPhone because its "the" phone, though maybe also because they have a library of itunes music. most people dont buy iphone because of its abilities beyond this.
