Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

What have Hendrix or the Doors done in the last 40 years? Dylan hasn't made a decent record since 1975. Should have retired decades ago (cf Bowie). Talking Heads. Not made a decent record since the 80s. REM. Not made a decent record since 1992. Springsteen. I was tempted to say, not made a...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

In my books SY are the best band ever to come out of America. That 5-album run from EVOL, through Sister, Daydream Nation, and Goo, to Dirty, is as good as any band has ever produced. And one of the best live bands I've ever witnessed too. Seeing (and being part of) the crowd as it erupted to...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Aye, possibly. But it was comparative popularity I was talking about, not whether FT is any good or not...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Seen them 3 times and they most certainly do. I always like bands that put their back into a performance, and Tom Smith always does that.

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Great album, but... It depends on whether the definition is 'indie bands' or 'indie reord labels'. Most people are going for the latter interpretation, in which case Another Music... was on EMI and disqualified.

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Just checked. It's "George Best + 9" on my copy... :) I think a related point to this is that some of today's iPod shuffle and download generation miss out on some great albums, because they pick and choose tracks (randomly or not), and don't realise how much effort the bands have put into...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Bonus tracks don't count i.m.o... And in many ways it ruins the balance of some records. A good example of this I think is my CD version of George Best. The original album is astonishingly good when listened to as a whole, and ends perfectly with You Can't Moan Can you? Then some record exec...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Oh, and Frank Turner's playing here in Eindhoven in a couple of weeks. It took him 5 months to sell out a 150-capacity venue...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

I saw Carter USM shortly after 30 Something came out - i.e. they were already famous - and besides Mrs T and I, there were three other people in the audience. It was in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Don't know what point that makes, apart from to show that what makes a band popular in one...

Is this the greatest indie album of the last century?

Agree with this entirely apart from one minor point of pedantry. The debut album has all of their best songs, EXCEPT one. Destroy the Heart isn't on it (or any standard album). It was released as a 12" single around the same time (may have been on 7" as well, but I liked to feel the width, so...
