[Albion] So Tomorrow If Those Scousers Boo the National Anthem........

I’ll help you out a bit and say that I am not really calling for these things to happen, I was just being a little bit ironic, but I think that went over your head! Try thinking of the same post with a smilie attached, that may help. Pointing out (tongue in cheek = another form of irony) some...

[Albion] So Tomorrow If Those Scousers Boo the National Anthem........

I don’t think it was the intention of the fans of the 3 Merseyside clubs to ‘just support their team‘ this weekend!

Well yes, but technically the U.K. are hosting it on their behalf.

They hate the establishment. I’m ok with that. Scouse not English? Fair enough. But then why do we use their city to represent the U.K.‘s hosting of Eurovision, or Everton’s new ground as an English venue for the Euro 2028 bid, or why do they even want to compete in the English Premier League...

Just out of interest, do you think the constitutional arrangements in your adopted home work better? They seem to be more fragmented than almost any other country in Europe. Maybe you just like living in countries that have a Monarchy!

Heard these guys being interviewed in the week. Prince William pottery, based in Liverpool. Wonder how that goes down on the mean streets there? https://promotionalmugs.co.uk/king-charles-coronation-memorabilia/

Which is an entirely reasonable perspective. The trouble is that the big discussions always seem to offer only binary solutions - Brexit in or out, Monarchy or Republic, Scottish independence or keep the Union, Labour or Tory, etc. Most of the time, the sensible and optimal solution lies in...

[Albion] So Tomorrow If Those Scousers Boo the National Anthem........

Whether or not they choose to boo, monarchy has always been a divisive issue, the only thing we fought a civil war over. It has never had 100% support, and today is no different. Merseyside may have a higher % of Irish immigrants and their descendants who would be even less pro-monarchy too...

[Albion] So Tomorrow If Those Scousers Boo the National Anthem........

One thing that confused me yesterday was the chant of ‘England’s number 1’ from the Scouse republicans to Picknose. Now surely if this whole anti-establishment ‘Scouse not English’ thing is to be taken seriously, they would want no part of the national set up and the national team. So had they...

That seems to make an enormous assumption that nationalism = Brexit. Not for me it doesn’t. I am proudly English, British and European. They are not mutually exclusive.

And Flower of Scotland is based on defeating Edward’s Army, hardly a song that shows Scotland in a great light in the 21st century

Although go to an England rugby international at Twickenham and our anthem is sung properly and with gusto. Took a Brazilian friend along and they noticed the clear difference between how it’s sung and perceived at rugby compared to football.

I totally disagree (well, I’m sure I would if I could work out what you are saying!)

Don‘t forget that historians would say Brighton is only what it is as a town/city because of its royal past. Doesn’t mean you have to like that fact but the royal family has shaped its very existence and raison d’être, more so than almost anywhere else in the country. Those Liverpool fans also...

I don’t think we sing the verse about crushing rebellious Scots any more, though might be good to have it introduced for the next Calcutta Cup? 🤪
