That was pretty special. Superb from Nibali, so so strong to win from that far out.
Quintana was impressive but thirty seconds when you are over three minutes down? Too little too late, why leave it until 5km to go. Nibali riding like a champion, Quintana, Valverde and Movistar riding for UCI...
You have sharp eyes Bold, I missed that totally.
Gonna be a bit of a shoot out on La Toussuire by the looks of things. Quintana has to go early if he wants to get anything out of this, no danger of losing a podium place with Thomas's explosion, so what do they have to lose?
Did he not go slightly before Froome's mechanical? Either way Froome would have let him go, i would have thought, Nibali is not in the same race as Froome anymore.
That would be proper. Team Cycling Geeks! I think we would have to let 1066 pick the riders though, he was normally the master at the fantasy cycling.
Another Valverde pretend attack reeled in. Why does he do that?
We are already there aren't we? Sky, Sinkoff, Astana, Movistar and Quickstep operate in a different world from the rest.
Wish the french would consolidate their teams a bit, Europcar, FdJ, Cofidis, AG2R and Bretagne Seche is just too many teams for too little talent. I know Europcar look like...
They would certainly get a much better press in France. Apparently Bardet has a bit of a marginal gains mindset as well, so could be a good fit. Though if Sky sign everyone that is rumoured their Tour team next year could be:
Froome, Thomas, Kwiatkowski, Bardet, Landa, Konig, Poels, Kennaugh...
Can what be true? You know an ex cyclist? You have a drinking buddy? That he has a semi? Or that there is someone called Richie Porte?
I'm confused.
Anyone else watching? Thomas dropped on the first climb but made it back in on the descent. Sky down to Froome, Poels and Thomas in the lead group already. Although no one else looks particularly strong either.
Live coverage about to start. Bit of rain about too, this could be epic. Unfortunately, I expect Movistar to be conservative, they nearly always are, and Valverde is the king of the podium place without pushing for victory when he should. May be up to Contador and Nibali to blow the whole thing up.
My blue print for everyone other than Sky. Smash it from the gun, do not worry about losing riders and keeping people back, just ride as hard as you can, treat the first climb like it is the last climb. The others need to change the pattern, Sky have coped easily with what has gone before, so...
But does he have to get the power back on so early because he carries so little speed in to the corners? I think that is his problem here, admittedly this was only a small mistake, but he does not seem to see the line, apex etc on every corner. I think he is fine if he has someone to follow but...
Maybe so, but if you are Nibali would you stay there after all this? Vino balling him out because he is not on top form, whilst they send a much much stronger team to the Giro to support Aru. Plus all the doping whispers, I would be gone like a shot if I was Nibali.
Maybe sign Rui Costa for the Tour de Suisse as well. Just let him go before he has a chance to win any proper races...
Though Nibali is rumoured to be moving, BMC would be a little bit of a leap but who else could afford him?
I think they get cut off before the adverts on ITV, then Imlach or someone says something or they do a little feature. During that time they are doing the American channel stuff. If they could just save the AMGEN Tour of California and SANTOS Tour Down Under chat for the Americans/Aussies that...
If you made a move like that on the last corner going in to a sprint, you would 100% have some sort of punishment. Most likely banished to the back of the field. That would be fair, imo.
