What are you basing that on?
de la Fuente called Sanchez up to the first squad he picked in March this year. He’s picked one more squad since then for the National League Finals and Sanchez wasn’t picked for that which is understandable as by then Sanchez hadn’t played for several weeks. If he...
I see no evidence that Chelsea have a plan to build an actual squad. It just seems to be a scatter gun approach to recruitment and paying a lot of money for what are statistically good players (but those transfer fees come with their own pressures).
There is no evidence they will gel as a team...
The Giggs example is irrelevant, he was never eligible to play for England (rules changed in 2009 but that was nearly 20 Years after he made his Wales debut).
He played for England schoolboys because he went to an English school, schoolboy football has nothing to do with Nationality and is...
Was he ever really close to being Spain's number 1? He never looked like ousting Unai Simon. It does seem rather baffling considering his club form here was excellent when he was first called up that he never got any time on the pitch.
He's only played for them twice despite being a regular in...
I stand corrected on Dunk, but he obviously took his punishment, sorted things with the manager and it was all water under the bridge very quickly as he only refused to play that one game and was back in the squad for the next match.
Sanchez was always told the managers door was open but there...
Dunk never refused to play when Fulham were after him, he was dropped to the bench. He was still available to play had Chris Hughton wanted him to, and came on at half time in one of those games he was sub for.
Caicedo missed the Liverpool FA Cup game. A game he could have easily been rested...
So it was made clear to Sanchez he wasn’t going to start and only be on the bench, he then asks not to be included. That is a refusal to sit on the bench, there is no other way to paint it. No one is judging him harshly, he let the club down at the most important time of our season.
Andy Naylor wrote an article saying Sanchez had asked to be left out of the squad for the Newcastle game. This is after RDZ said “Robert wanted it this way, it was his choice, not mine or the clubs” when Sanchez missed the Arsenal game.
Sanchez had plenty of poor games over his time here, as well as plenty of outstanding ones. He wasn’t dropped on the back of one bad performance, he was given a chance to prove himself. That’s exactly what happened with Steele, everyone was poor against Everton but there was no way that Steele...
I can only think of 3 players we’ve signed for £20 million or more. Webster, Bart and Joao Pedro. Some reports have Mwepu at over £20 million but that would have made him our record signing at the time and there was zero fanfare if he was.
Refusing to be selected is refusing to play. What happens if Steele got injured in the pre match warm up? Or during the game? Or even picked up a red card? We have to play a rookie keeper. He let the club down massively by asking not to be included in match day squads to sit on the bench. It’s a...
Yeah it did come after the Everton game. Clearly he thought that he’d get back in but Steele wasn’t the only one to have a poor game and as Sanchez had kept his place after similarly shipping a lot of goals he should know it takes more than one bad performance to change things.
He wasn’t dropped twice though. It was made clear that going forward he was to be second choice in the league and be the cup keeper. Steele had performed that role for a number of seasons and played in the Premier League when Sanchez was suspended. He knew he’d only be in for that game.
The...
He’s not featured in any training media but then he’s highly likely to be training on his on his own and the club are deliberately keeping him out of any photos and videos posted online.
He may have also been told to stay away from training by the club.
Nowhere near becoming Spanish no 1. Simon is first choice and seemingly has the place tied down now. When he was injured earlier in the season Kepa (who missed out on the World Cup squad) came into the squad and played in both the Euro 24 qualifiers in March. Sanchez was left on the bench.
It’s not really comparable though. Sanchez had over 50 appearances out on loan at Forest Green and Rochdale before he made his league debut for us. McGill has 5 from when he was on loan at Crawley.
