Listening to Floating Points and Grimes. The latter is an interesting DIY take on a pop album.

I never saw the properly live, but did listen to their stuff back in the day and probably saw them live on something. And plenty of people I know did get it. I can't always pinpoint exactly why I can't connect with a band and they fall into this category. I didn't dislike them, more...

I seem to be one of a very small number who didn't get 80s Matchbox.

Bought 3 albums last week: Julia Holter, Joanna Newsom, Fuzz. All have album of the year potential; the Newsom one especially.

Off to see Slayer week after next so I decided to give their new album a listen. Age certainly hasn't tamed these guys, the lead track Repentless is a ferocious and brutal as anything they've previously done.

My thoughts exactly, on both points. I'm quite excited about this album.

Agree. I was thinking the same. Quite a lot of stuff coming out at the moment including a new Joanna Newsom long player.

It's stuck on play now. Loving the wonky pop of Down Here.

You might be in luck then, as he does play around with the effects on his vocal in a few tracks. Please do report back; I'm keen to hear what you think.

The album is certainly not a return to QoD. Sonically it's a continuation of Pale Green Ghosts idea but with the benefits of a bigger budget and a big name producer. It's sounds a more accomplished and confident step up and slightly away from PGG. The electronics sound funkier; the balladry more...

I have been sent the new John Grant long player by those lovely people Rough Trade. First listen I was a bit meh; possibly because of the ridiculous level of expectation I have heaped upon it. Very very pleased to say it's a grower. Some truly wonderful songs are now starting to appear.

Think this album will be quite special. I have tickets to see him again in November.

Any thoughts on the new PIL long player? Opening track sounds a bit Sleaford Mods. Some good moments and I love the last track Shooom with it's techno styling and rant vocal.

I've never been convinced by any New Order album to be honest. They are an absolutely incredible singles act, having crafted some amazing tracks over the years. But their albums always fall well short in my opinion.

I'm a bit late to the Föllakzoid party but boy what an album. Some obvious nods to kraut rock and wonderfully hypnotic and thoroughly enjoyable.

You are correct. The missus has the multi-coloured triple vinyl version as well, that's very damn good.
