Powney, Dalton, Everitt, Napier J, Gilliver, Turner, Wilkinson, Sidebottam
Henderson, Smith, Blackburn, Lawton, Dawson, Napier K, Spearritt.
All from memory but reckon it's right. Freddie Goodwin's team and an early fav of mine, especially Kit Napier and Alex Dawson.
Then Dentsply is where I know you from.
I was in the export dept, weren't you with that miserable bugger Wiles, young Mr bates and the even younger Shaun? Actually Shaun saw me in the Star a couple of months back and recognised me, after all these years.
Audry, one of Wile's babes is still...
Stings, good spot, never noticed that before.
I don't think we had Airways on the shirts as a norm. There were very strick rules about the amount of area any sponsor's logo could cover.
Then & now, did you work at Dentsply at some time?
Thanks mr Rapper!
This would be a mid season pic after the great Freddie Goodin had taken over from Archie MC . With Alex dawson but no Eddie Spearritt, i'd put this pic at around December time.
Having a go at the names....
Dalton, Smith Everitt (standing on something!), Armstrong & blackburn...
That 68/69 team pic
Hodges, Powney, Lawton, Gall Templeman, Napier J, Napier K, Livesey, McGill, Burns and McCauley.
Smith, Blackburn, Henderson, Tawse, Armstrong, Wilkinson, Everitt & Turner.
named than straight off as this was the team pic from my 1st season. memory is a wonderful thing, I...
Little Jock Ridell was an absolute legend. Kit man and and general odd job, he hated bellotti and used to feed us with such tales of when somebody was nicking the soap powder, for washing the team kit, so a packet was 'mixed' with something that would bugger up a washing machine. shortly after...
Did TM2 ever play?
Must get my old books out one day.
Well, Sir, you are right in that it's listed as Tommy Mason in the team pic but only the 'real' TM is listed in the A-Z and and TM2 was not one of the 19(!) players who appeared in that81/82 season.
I beg to differ and will say that it is deffinatly NOT the Tommy Mason signed, along with Ricky marlowe, by Peter Taylor (the 1st) from Derby.
That TM was a small but tenacious midfield player who didn't quite get the chance he hoped for down here. He also had straight hair and a little beared...
Sadly, by Mike bailey's time, my fanatical following of everything albion had been chipped away at be drink, a wife & kids. Can't name all from that pick and no idea of that guy next to Bailey and I'll not cheat by looking it up.
Yes, I'd go with Bobby smith (the lesser known!). Dalton had a career ending broken leg the season before although I thought it might be one of those where he comes back as a player but has to give up.
He actually joined the backroom staff and followed Goodwin, along with Bell, to birmingham...
That came from the great battles between dawson and the brilliant teenage goalie of Walsall, Phil Parkes, who went on to have a long career at the top and didn't he play for England?
Over a series of games that season (we played Walsall 6 times) Parkes stood up to everything dawson threw at him...
Steve burtneshaw was before my time, as a player, but was well known in Albion history and had spells in management with Arsenal, Wednesday & QPR, i believe.
As for that wondeful pic of Freddie Goodwin's team, I reckon Dec/Jan period of the 68/69 season. Dawson was signed in early December but...
No idea why the shirts were different but Albion finished up using the white collers & cuffs for that season.
I believe Grenville millington had quite a career with Swansea but never really made it with Albion.
Great pics BTW. The one of the 71/72 flair team is an end of season rather than...
