The emergence of Joe Root is the only reason Bairstow is not in the side simply as a batsmen. For a young player, he's done pretty well, not set the world alight, but some decent scores and steady progress. While he may not get in the team purely as a batsmen, as a batsmen/keeper he has to be a...
Yes, he's been their first choice keeper since 2011. I'd be flabbergasted if he doesn't come in for Prior for the next test. He's decent with the gloves, and definitely worth taking a look at him over the next couple of tests or so.
Where is Billy The Fish? I really need him to cheer me up and put some kind of positive spin on this (more than Swann could anyway....).
Billy, it's not really all that bad.....is it!!??
I do disagree on Cook. All captains go through a dodgy spell through the added pressure, but normally they have batsmen to back them up and get runs. Cook has had new openers all year, and KP, Trott and Prior all failing with the bat has been an incredible amount to bare as captain and as...
I think that concern is irrelevant now. We are so bad it doesn't matter how sharp the replacements are, they can't do any worse than the currently selected players. Like Stokes has shown, it might be great for the likes of Bairstow, Finn, Rankin to get thrown into the fray. They've got nothing...
Would be great to see if Bairstow has the potential with the gloves as a replacement for Prior. England have to use these last 2 tests as a sounding board for the future. Should have made more changes for this test than they did, but they're living off a wing and a pray that players could pull...
It's not a knee jerk reaction, it is something that should have been looked at after the tour to NZ, then after the abject displays of most of them during the summer Ashes. Instead we've hoped for 12 months that most of these senior players would return to form, and instead they've completely...
How is that out then!?
Joe Root was given out, no evidence that he hit it, but because it was out on the field the decision stood.
In Bell given not out, no conclusive evidence that he did hit it, and given out!!??
That is just bollocks.
Stokes playing well. We've learnt a lot about this lad...
I think any view on Rankin is irrelevant, if he's out there, he should play. It might be that the next two tests tell us if he's up to it or not. May not tell us anything, but I'd rather lose 5-0 and discover a few things about a couple of the players, then lose 5-0 not playing people in the squad.
Broad has bowled well. He's the 2nd highest wicket taker for the series, 13 wickets at 25 isn't too bad, he'd walk into their side. He's just had nothing backing him up at the other end.
