The only rap music I can tolerate is stuff from the early 90s (although missed this at the time). Amazed to read in the youtube comments that apparently he does both voices!
I love the Link Wray original and the Calexico cover but this 10 minute version is still the best. Popped up on an old Uncut magazine compilation today.
Those drums! Very What's Going On ish.
Picked up a load of Uncut magazine CDs this morning and found this absolute little modern gem amongst them. Heavy rocksteady influence apparently - can anyone recommend some rocksteady tunes from the peak late 60s era?
Enjoyed Van Morrison at the Dome last week (still in great voice and great musicianship just poor song choice, with exception of Into The Mystic. Got emailed a free ticket offer though).
Still playing his tunes since then and this is a current favourite, from 1974:
Not generally a Metallica fan but heard this on Planet Rock and was blown away, listened to it a dozen times today. Must be their best song, even though it is a cover.

Courtesy of Soul Betty radio, oh how I love thee.
Surely, this must have been sampled countless times, way ahead of it's time. From the album Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal.
