412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

Our business has been going since 1971, so before computers. Three recessions have come and gone. I don't need lessons from you.

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

I don't know whether it was the Leave campaign or the media who came up with the notion of "Project Fear" but it was a campaign masterstroke, lumping together not only crackpot stuff like Osborne's emergency budget but also the opinion of experts about grant funding for education and scientific...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

Why not spend your energy on job creation?? I run an accountancy practice that employs 6 people, including someone from Romania! Doing what I do it's obvious that for at least 2 years (and probably 10) Brexit will make it harder and more uncertain to conduct business, jobs will go, investment...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

When a party loses an election they don't hold up their hands and disband, they fight on. I don't see that the 48% should behave any differently. Brexit is an unmitigated disaster, those leaders that brought about Brexit have fled the scene and there is no plan. I will never ever support...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

Are you seriously equating a huge message on the Leave campaign bus about an extra £350 million a week for the NHS and Farage's "Australian-style points system" immigration policy with Osborne's emergency Budget threat? I agree that the Emergency Budget was the low point of a lacklustre leave...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

I am not saying Brexit is similar to the decision to invade Iraq War, I am simply saying that in both cases the arguments FOR were wilfully misleading to those casting their votes. I don't see how you can generalise about MPs in the way that you've done. Charles Kennedy gave an impassioned...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

I'm angry that political vanity led to Parliament being wilfully misled over Iraq, and I'm angry that a Brexit campaign can be focused on a lie about leaving the EU to save the NHS. I'm very happy to listen, to reason and debate but the fact there has been backtracking on the Brexit promises...

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

Not sure about that. Iraq has WMD = Decisive lie. £350 million a week extra for the NHS / Australian-style points system whilst retaining free trade with EU = Decisive lies.

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

You're over-analysing it. The point is that both outcomes - invading Iraq and Brexit - were voted in on the basis of lies and deceit and that had the arguments been based on facts and best guesses we wouldn't have invaded Iraq and we wouldn't have voted for Brexit.

412 votes to 149: Parallels between the votes on Iraq and Bexit

Today with the reaction to the Chilcot Report I am reminded that on 18th March 2003 Parliament voted 412-149 in favour of the invasion of Iraq. Like Brexit this was a democratic majority with an outcome shaped by the voters believing misinformation and lies. Had those MPs known then what...
