The Rothmans football yearbook used to have a 'How to get there' section for each team which came in handy on occasion. Otherwise, I'd usually go by train and just follow the rest of them... Only once did I get to a game late - Cambridge Utd 1983. We won 4-3 with a last minute goal from Graham...
A number of mentions for Threads - there is a segment in that film where half time football results are read out on the radio, and one of them is Portsmouth 0-1 Brighton. I'm pretty certain we ended up losing that one 5-1. In the rain.
Good times.
Stiff Little Fingers at the Brighton Centre, May 1981. I was 13, and told my Mum I was going on a ten-pin bowling trip with the school.
They were supported by The Wall - there used to be a lad in the North Stand back in the early 80's with their logo on the back of his donkey jacket.
In with the away fans in the East. Not 100% sure why we ended up in there, but when we equalised, it was clear there were more than a few other Brighton fans in there with us. There was half-hearted talk of repercussions from one young lad, but nothing came of it.
I grew up in HH and lived in Bentswood Crescent for a few years - a few 'characters' around, and things might occasionally get a bit lively, but hardly a no-go zone. For quite a posh town, there's a few 'erberts in HH.
Don't get me started on Bugs Hole tho...;)
I've been living over here in Western Australia for 18 yrs now... in WA the only 2 teams are Fremantle and West Coast Eagles - there was no way I was going to follow a team with Eagles in the name. Case Closed.
Our local team used to use the Witch after games on a Saturday (one or two of us before the game too!) I remember once in a training session I played against him. Being a lumbering ox of a defender, I was convinced the greatest moment of my career had come as I closed in on Gerry for a tackle...
I remember FA cup 3rd round 1986 up there... red kit, sprinkling of snow, no one really gave us a chance, and we came away with a fantastic 2-0. Gascoigne , Beardsley and the rest of them playing... lets get it done Brighton!
