I would. Primarily because I could make up the shortfall elsewhere, which would potentially give me more freedom long term.
The reality is, working from an office requires 10 hours+ a week extra, which is unpaid. That’s a whole extra week of work every month. Plus the costs of commuting in...
Why? We protect his weaknesses and play to his strengths in a very clearly defined system… international football doesn’t allow for this in quite the same way.
And surely the signing of Ferdi was a look to the future and potentially replacing him anyway?
And I agree with that. I was lambasted for saying England would’ve been better calling up actual left backs from the Prem in the summer, rather than pushing players out of position.
But Veltman has some seriously stiff competition to get in at either RB or CB in that Dutch side.
And the...
He’d be fine. Of course he would. In the same way Brentford’s English left back or Newcastle’s big ol’Dan Burn would be fine at International level for England… or our very own Lewis Dunk.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t better players available for them, or players more suitable to the system...
Me too. But here’s the thing about grown up debate - 2 things can be true at once 😉 I’ve never said he couldn’t be part of our Premier League and Champions League winning defence, although the latter could only happen if his contract is renewed, no?
And as I’ve said, I think he’s great. I just...
It’s absolutely not, but if the Dutch team are stacked with one area of quality, it’s at RB and CB.
It doesn’t mean Velts isn’t class, because he is.
But there’s not a defender in their last squad that he gets in ahead of in either position, because they’re all equally good as him defensively...
I think the issue is that the players ahead of him are better, offering more rounded attributes. It’s fine when we’ll cover his weaknesses, but you can’t do that as easily at Int level when there’s less time to work on the system.
As I say, I love the guy, but he’s a limited footballer.
I’m really interested in politics and have always loved an informed political debate.
The problem I’ve found, particularly since Brexit, is that most people in this country can only think in extremes. “Ahhh, you’re a communist”, or “ahh, you’re a Nazi”.
I blame social media, in the main, and...
I know it’s a really selfish thing to want, but I’d really like us to try and push on to be regulars in Europe and potentially a top 4 side. Starting to keep players like Baleba is the starting point for that.
