According to a mate of mine, today's Daily Express had a story that Cloughie tried to sign Bobby Moore for Brighton.
As the Express is not a paper I'd read, I missed this particular gem. Judging by the fact that no-one has posted this, I guess no-one else reads the Express either.
Anyone know...
Does anyone know of any charity that takes old football strips? The BBC has its shirt amnesty but that's finished for the year and they're not taking any more.
I have a collection of old Brighton shirts (and a few others) that could go. It seems a shame to chuck them out.
Not quite 'a bloke down the pub' but a mate who's a Crewe supporter reckons that Brighton are sniffing around Paul Edwards and that a few clubs are interested.
As he hasn't scored a goal for Crewe, he doesn't seem to be the striker we're looking for (even if this rumour is true).
As I've mentioned before, Mrs Gwylan and I are house-hunting in the Brighton area and hope to find somewhere shortly.
We've got details of a cracking property in Seaford which is just what we're looking for but I don't know much about what Seaford is like to live in. Anyone from around there...
Just got back from WOMAD and had to laugh at this item in the programme. "Why is Bristol so crap at producing good football teams...?" Good to see someone with a sense of humour within the organisation.
BTW, I stayed in a hotel in Reading rather than camp it (Mrs Gwylan's birthday treat) and...

Absolute genius but complete nutter.
I remember being transfixed by the Fischer /Spassky match in 1972. One of my favourite sporting memories.
WTF?
From the BBC.
"US Secretary of State Colin Powell has wowed fellow foreign ministers at an Asean security meeting, with a rousing rendition of a disco classic.
Mr Powell donned a hard hat and stuffed a hammer in his belt for the Village People's YMCA, a massive 1970s hit.
He was...
I've never been one to moan about political correctness, when people moan that one has to be 'politically correct' these days what they usually mean is that they can't be racist or otherwise offensive.
But, one of the sites that I post on has just started censoring words that are deemed...
From the Guardian.
"North Wales police are to crack down on "bat crimes" - those who disturb the mammals or their roosts. Operation Bat follows pressure from conservationists worried by falling numbers.
Despite fines of up to £5,000 per bat dislodged, builders and developers were behind...
Markus Merk will ref the final, with Anders Frisk and Pierluigi Collina getting the semis.
Thought it would have been Collina in his last finals, but there you go.
When we got bored with bemoaning England's departure, my mate and I started musing about how many players in Euro 2004 have played against the Albion, in league games and in cup matches.
We've certainly played against David James in a league match as he dropped the ball for Raphael Meade to...
Sussex 141-7, still 53 runs behind Gloucestershire's first innings.
It will be over by this evening.
Looks like it will be a tough struggle against relegation this year.
The Observer has a list of the sexiest footballers according the Gay Football Supporters Network. The big surprise is that Jake Robinson is joint 10th sexiest (although eyebrows will be raised at Wayne Rooney's appearance at number 2 at the list).
The winner was Thierry Henry, which will be of...
From Libération
"Le Portugal est une destination privilégiée des Anglais. Il y fait beau et la bière n'est pas chère. Pas étonnant dès lors de voir toute une armée de supporters drapés dans la croix de Saint James déferler sur la capitale pour assister au choc entre l'Angleterre et la France."...
The Campaign to Protect Rural England appears to be suffering from amnesia.
According to a BBC report (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3788901.stm), local councils should be given control over whether building schemes should be given the go-ahed in protected areas.
Let me get this right. This is...
Today's debate in the office is whether people actually pull in supermarkets or is it an urban myth that they're, er, meeting places.
Have you ever picked up/been picked up in a supermarket? Or tried to?
The Guardian has a list of the Euro 2004 referees. Of the 12, 11 speak several languages, most of them speak 3 or 4. Just one referee speaks one language, good old Mike Riley from England.
Do you think he'll just shout louder and louder until he's understood? :)
McGhee says that we're not a free-scoring side, yet, this season we still managed a 4-0 win against Wycombe.
Does anyone know the last time we went through a season and failed to score four goals in a game? Even in our darkest depths of the Archer and Gillingham years, we managed it.
It must...
Sorry to intrude on the celebrations but could any of your Berkshire types recommend a decent B&B in Reading. We're staying there for WOMAD and although I can find some places on the Web, I've no idea whether they're decent or a UK version of Bates Motel.
Has anyone got any ideas?
