The main disadvantage of the metric system is that almost all of the units take longer to say than something comparable in Imperial.
I'm actually all in favour of metric as it's a far more logical system. I just wish millimetres, centimetres, kilometres and kilograms had fewer syllables. (Yes...
I quite like the Salford Quays/Media City area that sits beside Old Trafford and would say it's already one of the UK's most successful urban regeneration projects.
I can't quite get my head around why the area a 5-minute walk away would qualify for so much public money. I understand why Man U...
I find most of the analysis, such as it is, sends me into a kind of stupor anyway. Too many arbitrary grey boxes being drawn on the playing field, too many futile discussions about "should the keeper/full back have done better?", too many ex-pros expressing bewilderment that a game of football...
Saw a couple of Fulham fans being manhandled by stewards and then dealt with by police after some scuffles outside the north stand entrance near where the players park. All seemed a bit silly and one guy ended up in handcuffs while his girlfriend or sister looked on in tears. Another bloke got...
Couple next to me did their customary disappearing act two minutes before the end, as they always do in both halves. Of course that’s their prerogative and they paid the same as I did and it’s none of my business and how do I know what reasons they might have for a premature getaway. But even so...
I was persuaded to switch to Macs at Currys many years ago. I was there to buy yet another Hewlett Packard PC that would die, like all the others, after about two and a half years.
I told the sales guy I wasn't a big fan of Macs as I used them at work and always found Windows to be better.
He...
A large rat trap with a metal arm is best. Plastic ones don’t always kill the rat outright whatever the manufacturers claim. Poison is all well and good but the rat usually dies in a place that’s difficult to access meaning weeks of stench and then flies.
All from my personal experience. Good luck.
I was asked by a younger football fan yesterday what sort of manager Hughton was for us and said a lot of this.
Unlike Kompany or Martin who attempted Pepball with limited players, Chris focused on the defensive priorities and made as as hard to beat as possible. It was the right approach at...
Feel a bit sorry for their players to be honest. They have a squad that looks like its natural position would be just above the relegation zone and below the mid-table clubs. And that's exactly where they are. Quite why there are so many media inquests into their defeats this season is beyond...
There was a bit of muted booing for Caicedo at times but it seemed quite half hearted. Cucurella’s every touch was booed - even at half time when Chelsea were sent out early to do a bit of passing practice.
I was in central ESU and didn’t see empty seats in the blocks near me. Maybe it was different at the ends? North end and south end of WSL had plenty of untaken seats but I’d say both blocks were at least 50% full from my vantage point.
Just stumbled upon this thread and skimmed some posts. A lot of thoughtful NSC wisdom being dispensed and plenty of empathy.
I'm 56 this year and lucky enough to be healthy and doing a job I like and which gives me the things in life I want (which is just as well as I'll need to work for...
In the queue for the railway bridge there seemed to be a 20-stone pissed-up Chelsea knobhead squaring up to what looked like a skinny and terrified-looking Brighton teenager. Looked like it might turn nasty until the idiot’s marginally less idiotic mate dragged him away. Saw something being...
Came into Falmer from Brighton on the train in the company of some gobby Chelsea fans. I was kind of hoping they’d maintain their obnoxious levels of homophobia inside the stadium so we might see a few Neanderthals hooked by the Sussex constabulary but their bravery clearly deserted them.
The proposal as I understand it is simply this. Sussex will have three unitary authorities – East, West, B&H. Then a mayor for the entire county on top of that tier.
So no more district or borough councils eg Eastbourne, Adur, Hastings, Wealden etc.
Maybe there are efficiencies to be achieved...
