That is called Chaff, a ship fires into the air to confuse an Exocet missile and direct it away from its target…. It did work quite well in 82 and probably would have interfered with radio signals for a short time having been deployed. Once dispersed radio signals would have been back to normal.
If you need any help/info on how to apply for indulgence flights and accommodation, give me a shout and I can point you in the right direction. The first time I went back with a load of 2 Para lads, they all found it a great benefit.... It's not for everyone though.
They would have no chance. Did you know there is now a fully operational airbase down there that went fully operational in1985, anywhere between 1000 and 2000 personnel based there at any one time. All kinds of aircraft based there, airplanes not my thing so don't know what they are. There is an...
So I am a veteran of the Falklands War. Not a day goes by where I don't think about it. I haven't got PTSD or anything but I do suffer with survivor guilt sometimes. It has been a big part of my life for the last 43 years. I was drafted down there again in 84 for 6 months serving at Commcen...
What a load of tosh! Every ship in the fleet was in touch with the UK 24/7 and vice versa. Back in them days we had teleprinters in the communications office. This was linked to a crypto machine. Signals are received by Radio Automatic Teletype (RATT) Through HF receivers. We could also transmit...
I left home at 1800 from Rustington travelling by motorcycle. Still took me twice as long as normal to get to the ground. Got there 1900. Could have been quicker but the amount of drivers who just won't let me filter is annoying. It is perfectly legal to filter in this country, I'm not slowing...
I was going to say the same, but remembered when HMS Nottingham ran aground and had to be transported back home on a ship. Does this make HMS Nottingham a boat?
Not going Thursday nor do I have any tickets but just thought I'd say that I really like Chalk as a venue for gigs. Been a few times now. Went on Saturday after the game to see The Selecter, brilliant night out...
One of the quickest fixes they could do is change the sequence of traffic lights after the game at the Bridge car park. They do this at Villa, a man stands by the box that controls the lights and does it manually to help the flow of traffic. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Being ex military, my daughter always had the cleanest shoes at school. Cleaned at least twice a week with proper kiwi polish and boot brushes I've had since 1981. People always commented on her shoes. She's 18 now and she still gets me to polish her Doc's for her...
My shoes are always...
By the looks of it parking wasn't supposed to go on sale until 1400. Bought mine about half 12.... just after that you couldn't buy, a bit of finger trouble the other end me thinks.
Motorcycle, that's the way to see the countryside. Typical run out on a Sunday would be up to Whiteways at Bury Hill, then onto Loomies along the A272, great road on a bike. Then upto Box Hill, followed by Newlands Corner and then maybe onto the Custom Cafe at Bexhill and back home to...
Having already done it, I would do it again in a heartbeat. The Falklands felt like a proper war, literally fighting for your country and feeling proud of what you were doing. Totally different emotions to being down the Gulf peacekeeping. We were tasked with keeping the straits of Hormuz open...
