No problem with any of that, but in what way are their actions brave? It is the wrong word to describe their actions or inactions. A loved one was killed and they still do not know who committed the crime. No doubt this event has caused them great pain, but coping with grief is not an action...

That depends which relation! Regardless of whether or not I was happy, unless I had somehow conquered fear and accomplished something whilst being at risk of severe injury or death, I would not describe my action as brave.
