Seems an odd road to choose to pedestrianise?

Tbh, there's not much traffic anyway on it apart from buses and taxis. Will just mean the nearby streets get more snarled up.

Finally. Thought I'd be long gone before this got started.

Three cheers for the Mayor, although he appears to have forgotten that traders need access to Dixxxxonnnnns.

Every time I hear the word pedestrianisation I think about Dixon's access. They're currently doing one of the main streets here and I constantly have to refrain from cracking the joke to anyone non-British or under 40.

Tried walking down it at Christmas ?

Long overdue. The issue is not with the traffic, it's about making it a nice place to visit shop and eat. Which is currently isn't.

People have visited the great shopping streets abroad and wondered why we can't do that in London.

I shit myself when i read that headline, i clicked on the link and was relieved that it wasn’t Brighton’s Oxford Street, i laughed today when i read one of B&H Councils objections to the New Mcdonald’s on Old Shoreham Road was that queuing traffic will disrupt the smooth flow of traffic, like they truly care about the smooth flow of traffic ever 🤦

I’d like to see Western Road & North Street Pedestrianised in Brighton
I guess that's the main east west route, so I can't see it.

However in a world where the council had money and imagination, the route from the station to the sea front, down Queens Road and West Street, which is currently a real chore to walk down, could actually become a pleasant route, with trees, cafes and fairy lights quickly replacing the generally feeling of scuzziness

I agree, this is badly needed.

Sadly, there would still be human sh|t in doorways and assorted wasted street dwellers greeting the incoming hordes.

I say this with much sympathy for the group of unfortunates that plague the area - they need support to be lifted out of the cycle they are trapped in. But from a practical perspective (and I say this as someone who has worked on Queens Rd for about 15 years), pretty much anything that is done by the council would have less impact unless that aspect is tackled too).

Carrying that flat pack stadium from IKEA, is going to be a bugger for those Palace fans ???

And let’s be frank the Council’s million pound western road refurb is actually shocking 😳
