Precisely.

And loathe Bibi as I do, when a nation avowed to destroying Israel declares it is upping its nuclear capability...
Bibi is bound to attack. Of course he is.
I mean, Bibi could have opened negotiations....
perhaps that was what the ayatollah was expecting.
Yes, that's it. Iran declared an increase in its nuclear capacity as an olive branch in pursuit of peace!

This is the problem Israel has created for itself in the international community and in global opinion terms

Absolutely when you look at the facts of this as you've listed them, there is easily a justification for this, and whether or not people would give any sympathy to their position would at least understand why they've acted in this way against these targets. It's similar to the British bombing German tank factories in the 1940s, it's logical in the context of "the struggle". But Israel has long since blown through any goodwill it may have had for this sort of thing by acting like pricks elsewhere (such as in Gaza but also in countless other places), which doesn't help their cause and leads to instant suspicion as to their true motives and actions.

Well indeed. I am never going to admire Bibi.
But I am disinclined to go anywhere near whether I 'support' Israel or not, as a notion.
This nation has unfortunately elected a crook.
This nation will do bad things all the while the crook is in charge.
It may also do bad things when the crook has been replaced.
But I have hope that, as a democracy, Israel may eventually elect a peacemaker.

In contrast the surroundings states are not democracies.
There is no chance their people will elect a constructive leadership.
Because there are no meaningful elections
Their behaviours are entirely dictated by their ruling elites.

With that in mind, any suspicions I may have about Israel's motives drop way down my list of things to ponder,
when it comes to thinking about how it could all eventually end well, and the obstacles that are in place.
Bibi is a shit but let's not forget that several of Israel's neighbours want the Jews cleansed,
'from the river to the sea'.

I also agree that Trump has facilitated the present situation by supporting Bibi.
With these two bad actors out of the way there may be a hope of hope.
In the meantime all that the UK can do is tut.

I'm wondering if you are still in agreement with this Labour Government allowing arms sales licenses to Israel for the purpose of "defending" itself, which you were even several months into the obliteration of Gaza and it's civilians?
Still trolling out the same lies about my stance on this?

I was NEVER into arming Israel’s retribution war on Gaza - exactly the opposite. I was one of the first people to call out Netanyahu’s behaviour on the Gaza thread the day after the invasion by Hamas and I identified the Right Wing extremism in Netanyahu’s government - including his expansionist agenda - and I have done so consistently.

😔
Certainly no shame in being prepared to call out the atrocities of Israel and Netenyahu and others, as you consistently have done.
Yeah nice sideways swipe at me by saying this to a fellow Jew - I have called out Israel’s treatment of the Palestines for the last 40 years - where were you before October 23?

I think you can’t see beyond your hatred of Labour and have constantly tried to slur me on this forum regarding my position on Gaza -even sending me private messages accusing me of supporting genocide and accused me of defending the weaponisation of antisemitism ALL because I admitted to voting for Labour at last election to get Liz Truss out of power.

There is a LOT I disagree with that Labour does about a range of policy issues - and I’m certainly no fan of Starmer.

You really need to widen your thinking and stop treating the war as your personal hobby horse to voice petty grievances at other members of NSC.

The world is facing a potentially existential conflagration in the ME ( and Europe) so stop playing games.

So I'm not interested in the crimes of China and Russia? My word you make assumptions. I'm an anti imperialist and opposed to all oppression, that includes the above and the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia etc. As a Jew I have had no choice but to be aware of the crimes of Israel my whole life. And as a student and Teacher of History I don't have such a simplistic and Westander view of goodies and baddies and how a few bombs will make it all better.
You are probably wasting your time tbh.
I argued all these nuanced points on the Gaza thread for 2 years getting attacked by both sides of the debate who want polarised arguments.

All I can say now is that it’s a fcuking tragedy for everyone.

Dont be ashamed to be Jewish - be proud and speak out against the mass slaughter of innocents, speak out against illegal occupation and cruel oppression and hate all forms of apartheid because acts of inhumanity are NOT what it means to be Jewish by any definition of the way I was brought up..

A perfect response and this is how everyone should view the situation IMO. Let the leaders scrap it out, leave the innocent populations out of it.

Iran’s barbaric regime since 79 …. when they reinvented how women should live. Break the absurd dress code and they disappear forever. Raped by secret police then imprisoned and sometimes murdered. Sauce: human rights organisations and firsthand accounts by Iranian women who luckily escaped. A vile, murderous government, suppressing millions people.
What exactly did Iraq teach us if not that going to war with abhorrent regimes isn’t always the right call, that it doesn’t always leave everyone better off?

Reducing the wisdom of military action to the probity of the regime being targeted is terribly simplistic - and while I don’t want Iran to develop a nuclear weapon this wouldn’t be the first strike on Iran’s nuclear program to fail to cripple it. Entirely fair to question the efficacy of attacking Iran like this without being lectured to about their regime.

I'm going to close this - it's a sunny Friday and there are better ways to spend your time than engaging in this.

As has been the case consistently for a while, I'm sure I'll now be accused of the two following things simultaneously:

- Being an anti-semite
- Being an Israel apologist by restricting criticism of their actions

If you really think I’m either of those things, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror and reflect on how your own prejudices affect your judgment of others.

Scanning through quickly, there seems to be a case of mistaken identity.

The person who most recently reported me/NSC to the police was NOT a local councillor with a history of making vile racist jokes online, it was another former user of the site.

One more observation I’ve made around this subject. Most people seem to think the below:
  • Hamas are ****s
  • The Iran regime are ****s
  • The Houthis are ****s
  • The current Israel government are ****s
However, there is a group of people who, whilst they absolutely agree with the first three, disagree with the fourth to such an extent that they will not listen to any criticism of Netanyahu, and will seek to shut it down with wild accusations of antisemitism. You do yourself and the plight of Israel no good at all.
