You are assuming that a Premier League club would want him.....we've seen him play remember, he's pants, not even Championship level. Fails the sight test of ability, speed and height massively. Sorry.
While I agree there were some fairly obvious errors in his brief debut appearance, it seems more than a little unfair to brand the guy a failure even at Championship level on that basis.

There was a reason the Derby fans referred to Cashin as 'Tug Boat'.
Is he very proficient at navigating hazards around major ports in order to safely dock cruise liners and cargo ships?

Not fast enough. Neither him or Boscagli solve the pace issue at the back. Having those two as our summer centre back signings would be a mistake.
The fact he’s Italian means that pace will be immaterial, as he’ll know every trick in the book and will read the game beautifully…..

Can’t comment on Boscagli.

A back three of JPVH, Coppola and Boscagli will be very good at getting the ball up the pitch but will constantly look like they’re running through treacle on the counter attack. Not for me IMO, after the last two seasons. Would much prefer Mario Gila, though I doubt he’d come here with Chelsea sniffing. Or ideally, Jhon Lucumí, who we have been fleetingly linked with. Both of those solve the pace issue.

I had a look at this guy on YouTube and unfortunately, his physical appearance is very, very similar to that of Bruno Fernandes. That just doesn't sit well with me so I'm out.

Webster is deceptively quick, not as fast as he was but a lot faster than the others quoted.

My point is….. Basically, FIFA rankings are generally nonsense….
Nothing wrong with quibbling with these or those rankings but if it weren’t fundamentally true our center halves are painfully slow we wouldn’t all be praying for reinforcements with pace. Webby may be “deceptively quick” but he’s still not quick enough for our style of play.

Are you basing this entirely on that fifa rating or have you actually seen him play?

Cos that scout report website posted earlier says:
His large frame and long stride allow him to cover ground quickly
???

Over on the JP Van Hecke thread I posted about a report I got Gemini to do on the 4 CBs we appear to be looking at this summer,

Olivier Boscagli
Pietro Comuzzo
Diego Coppola
Mario Gila

The Ai report it generated was pretty impressive. It trawlled 27 websites and create a piece of research the was very detailed and really stats heavy. But the really cool thing it did was to create a user friendly, much less stats intense podcast based on the report I got it to run.

Here is that podcast, it's 15 minutes long and does a really good job of comparing the 4 players.

Seen him play a couple of times. Don’t watch as much Serie A as I used to, but I’ve seen a couple of his games. And of course the highlight videos, but they can be very selective. I personally do not think he’s quick enough for what we need. If the club disagree, then fine.

Maybe......I concede he may not be a failure at Championship level but at the Premier League level he's got no chance in my humble opinion, despite the 'In Tony We Trust' brigade who think otherwise. Complete waste of millions of pounds sadly.

Anyway, back to the thread on this slow Italian ;)

I think we can firstly rule out Comuzzo altogether for now. He signed an extended contract with Fiorentina to 2029 two weeks ago. This one doesn't seem likely now.

Boscagli is already seemingly in the hutch and this confirms that he is all about deep lying playmaking rather than exceptional pace and defending. That means that he'll need a centre back partner to make up for his lack defensive steel (JPvH the obvious candidate) and then a fast full back or central midfielder to help him cover fast breaks.

Coppola seems to be the best purely defensive player. He might be really complement Boscagli if they partnered together.

Gila is interesting because of his passing, dribbling and decent pace. He'd be the most expensive though and you wouldn't want to play him at the back with Boscagli because both would struggle defensively.

My thoughts are that Hürzeler & the recruitment team aren't prioritising a pacy centre back, rather they'll want pacy full backs to cover the likes of Dunk, JPvH, Boscagli and Webster.

I suspect we'll sign Coppola and that'll be it for centre backs. What that does mean is that any full back signings need to be fast, we just can't afford to have the likes of Hinch, Velts or Wieffer playing alongside our super slow centre backs as they can't do the cover work because their pace is not elite enough.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Gila would have been my 1st choice instead of Boscagli. But a free transfer or a €50m signing, I can definitely see the clubs point of view.

Boscagli pinging 50 yard balls for Minteh to chase does sound exciting.
