Not sure what point exactly you are trying to get across here (well I do sort of) but ( and don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not attacking you) you have chosen a poor anecdote to make it imo:

Neither CB nor PIP are means tested benefits -people can get both even if they are earning a good income.
I get you. And you’re absolutely correct.

Even in that case. I don’t think that justifies using PIP to buy duty free fags 🤣

Child benefit should be used for essentials, no?

I dunno. I’m behind the times.

My feeling is that benefits, if needed, should be spent on essentials. Otherwise they’re not needed.

I suppose my point was that it’s a bad example to set and this is how this behaviour perpetuates.

Also, I’m taking it you’ve never been in the Rainbow Cafe? I don’t think even the people that work there have jobs. 🤣

Now you must excuse me, I have to extinguish the gas lamps and away to bed for the morrow brings yet another day of drudge.

Jebadiah’s Latin tutoring doesn’t pay for itself.

You're right, there were definitely no criminals in the olden days and everyone was better.

Much better to send 'illegitimate' children off to Australia, for example, than have to suffer being exposed to single parent families.

You say you had values instilled in you by your parents and grand parents, so presumably by implication, the values of the current generation that you find so disappointing were instilled on your watch?
I’ve certainly instilled those same values on my kids, can’t speak for anyone else bringing up kids in this country

I realise the man is a bad messenger and a hypocrite.

Perhaps a bad example to use.

I was hoping to spark a wider debate on criminality.

I realise I may have been a tad silly.

Apologies all.
A clear decline in respect for the traditional authorities in society as we know/knew it in these islands, that is for sure.....this has generally accelerated in the wake of the tragic George Floyd events and follow up civil unrest. I suspect this isnt going to change in our lifetimes, most of the Gen Z/Millennial generations ( and those still to come) take their authority guidance from Tiktok and Insta..... at 62 years old, I am glad I will 'outa here' before the shit really hits the fan in the next half century, because it will.

The massive increase in petty crime and society's seeming acceptance of it is just one issue amongst a host of issues which currently impact British society. You can add in housing, the NHS, water, energy, the climate/global warming, globalization, education, the rise of AI which will and is massively impacting the job market and external threats (Russia, China) to name just a few. It's hard to see things with perspective when you are in the middle of something but things do not look good. At least we have the Albion!!
