Which goes for Fulham and Bournemouth too - only Brentford of that middle pack have avoided embarrassing draws or losses to the bottom three and they still might finish below us due to points dropped elsewhere.

Blimey some people have short memories. The reason we are unlikely to get European qualification is because of some abysmal performances at home against teams lower down the league.

The reason isn't rocket science though, is it? We struggle against teams who sit back with a low block. We excel against teams that lets us play and try and out-football us. It is hardly a unique problem to have. And some of those results should have been wins but for stupid lapses. We lost against Palace because they turned up to play derby games and we turned up like the Harlem Globetrotters. Young team and young manager will hopefully learn.
That's why FH is looking to add some physicality to the squad. For those low block sides, we need to be able to get in and wrestle with them on the edge of, and in, their box. Not try to hypnotise them by passing backwards and forwards 30 yards out.

Yep - no coincidence that Gruda had his best game for us when Liverpool let him have it in pockets of space. Not lumps kicking him. We need to find the balance between slight, technical players and bruisers who make space for the others.

Precisely this. I back us to win football matches against teams that play football against us.
It’s getting through those teams that sit back with a bank of four and a bank of five where we just don’t have the muscle to break through, or the guile to lure them out of position.

All decent teams get low blocked. I think the speed of passing and movement in the final third is the main thing that marks out the top teams to the upper mid teams.

I think you’re right, unless you have an absolute beast of a Haaland style centre forward that can take the ball through a packed defence, things have to be moving at a speed that prevents the opposition feeling settled and comfortable.
There’s been too many matches where it’s felt like our attacks were waves breaking on a sea wall. We might get a goal in a time span of decades, but in ninety minutes we’re not going make an impact.
