Watched Sinners and it’s a 6/10 for me. It doesn’t seem to know quite what it wants to be, with the film split into two really. It’s perfectly enjoyable as a one off, but not the type of film that would get a rewatch.

Flow 9/10

One of the most beautiful animated films I’ve ever seen, won the international film Oscar so has been suitably garlanded but doubt anything will top it for my film of the year. It has ecological themes and maybe there’s some subtle satire on racism too but mostly it’s just a great adventure story that will have you on the edge of your seat and maybe with tears in your eyes

Despite some not-so-kind reviews. I really enjoyed The Penguin Lessons.

Coogan is great in this quite simplistic but moving fillum, great use of a Nick Drake classic and a spec or two of dust in the eye at the end.

A little Dead Poets Society going on too.

Recommended, and rather lovely.

Saw this yesterday with my two sons (one has just finished uni, the other is in the final stretch) and really enjoyed it. At the moment, wondering if it is my favourite Marvel film? It had a nice blend of fair realism (for a film like this) along with a sensible amount of humour. Marvel normally inject some levity into proceedings which is probably one good reason I don't enjoy the bland, far too serious DC fare.

As ever, Florence Pugh (so not a film star's name!) is excellent - don't think I've seen her turn in anything but a great performance in things.

I'm not up to speed (neither are my sons) in all the different characters/worlds etc., which seem to be - like Star Wars - subject to multiple spin off series on Disney+ (which we don't have) but I didn't think it mattered. Worked pretty well with having no prior knowledge of any of the characters.

Despite its 2hr+ run time, it flew past with no baggy bits in the middle. And as typical for a Marvel film, there's a mid-credit and post-credit scene. And for a change, the post-credit is worth seeing (assuming you liked the film).

Looking forward to this.

And I’m genuinely a man who believes Marvel films are almost unwatchable.

Final Desination Bloodlines Part 6

Bloody hell what a great film easily the best of the 6. Good story and acting, very clever and opening part with the tower was stunningly done. Kills were brilliantly done. Has to be 86 out of 100. Very well done and highly recommended

I fancied bunging something on tonight after this afternoons absolute catastrophe, and this popped up on the Firestick. This film is mired in tragedy after the death on set of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming, which you likely know about.

Anyway, this is a fairly slow-burning western set in 1880's Wyoming following the tale of an estranged grandfather (Alec Baldwin) busting his 13 year old grandson out of jail, who had been sentenced to hang for an (accidental) killing. The law, and the bounty hunters, are all in relentless pursuit.

If cinematography is your thing, then Halyna hits it out of the park, the film is stunning to look at. Sweeping landscapes, with those classic sharp contrasts and silhouettes from doorways that echo those classics of Sergio Leone. Baldwin is superb as a grizzled, gruff frontierman killer taking care of his (initially resentful) grandson on their trek.

There's no huge action sequences, but what there is is some pleasing classic cowboy stuff, with fights in saloons, shoot-outs in the streets, great characters, lots of machismo, some humour, and a good story driving the whole thing with folk you are really rootin' for.

Might not be everyones cup of tea. Its no Tombstone (which will never be topped), but I am a sucker for a western, and this is decent.

Havoc.

Directed by Gareth Evans. The director of The Raid and The Raid 2.

So you know right from the off, it’s gonna be a great action film if nothing else.

And it really is nothing else.
I just watched it this week and thought it was dreadful.

Just utterly confusing, often three way fight scenes confusingly edited.

A plot that made little sense and Tom Hardy growling through the most stereotypical "dirty cop" character.
