I think you are reading that wrong, for whatever reason.

It is Landlords that are being offered 5 year contracts to house asylum seekers. Once the asylum seeker's case is processed they will be moved into the general system, as per this guidance...

Yes that is correct , the contract is between the Landlord and Serco while the migrants stays for 5 years rent free

I couldn't see either the report named or a link to said report in that article.

I'll be honest though, I didn't do much more than scan after those two massive red flags so happy to be proven wrong, if you can link to it or tell me what its called of course.

Another asylum seeker. It's not the same asylum seeker for five years, it's a contract to let the place to asylum seekers and the contract lasts five years. Bit like student accomodation - you agree to let your house to students for five years, but they'll be different students every year.

Time for a fact check. Asylum seekers are not generally eligible for council housing. There are a few extreme circumstances, such as domestic violence, where exceptions are made.

Councils tend to have local connection criteria for any applicant - this has been the case for years - which means even UK citizens can’t just apply anywhere they want.

Correct , so for 5 years (at least ) the accommodation is only available for migrants and where do the previous tenants go to ?

Potentially another asylum seeker awaiting processing - which as you know, is totally different to what you said/inferred, "people coming to the UK to apply for asylum and get 5 years rent and utility free accommodation"...

We don’t know the answer to that. But a ‘revolving door’ between Serco and the UK government has been noticed. The company CEO is Rupert Soames, (grandson of Tory MP Winston Churchill, son of Tory MP Christopher Soames, brother of Tory MP Nicholas Soames). Tory MP for Charnwood, Edward Argar is currently a junior health minister and has also held a post at the Ministry of Justice. Before he became an MP in 2015, he was head of public affairs at Serco UK and Europe.

But no, we can’t be sure why this company with strong links to the Tory party is frequently handed contracts by the Tory government even though it so often seems to do a terrible job.

I just don't get how people can think that these companies are giving away luxury freebies to the asylum seekers. Isn't it far more likely that they are taking your tax money and turning them into profits for themselves and their shareholders? (with the help from their alleged contacts in the Tory party).

I (and maybe a few others) would be interested if:
-- you got that 'fact' from the Telegraph, and
-- whether such facts feature in any article the Telegraph publishes on economic growth, and whether, for instance, they report that the UK's Q1 growth is the highest in the G7?

I say this as someone who thinks that Labour's stress on achieving growth was a hostage to fortune in a low growth environment, and who thinks that growth rates will be low in Qs2-4. But we shall see.

I am not sure who or what Starmer is. His attacks on business were very old Labour whilst the heating allowance debacle and the slashing of benefits (yet to play out fully I feel) would have been shocking if made by a Tory gov. His anti immigration rhetoric has been quietly accepted by many of those who would have been apoplectic if made by Farage.

If Starmer was taking the best of old Labour, Tory and Reform ideology then I would be hopeful. But he appears to be taking the worst which means he is either completely incompetent or very worrying
