It’s a bit of a disaster for all of Europe in that it further emboldens AfD, which is unsurprisingly demanding new elections. If it leads to them getting into power, those 18 MPs that voted against Merz will have a great deal to answer for.

It was a secret ballot as well, so there’s no certainty of which MPs need their ears boxing ahead of a 2nd round vote.

No real surprise. Only local elections but was there any Russian interference in our elections last week, they would have wanted Reform to win.

I read a few weeks/months (where does the time go?) back that he had raised a blood feud with some Ingushetians (next door to Chechnya) over a business deal. Then we heard that he had been attending unauthorised meetings in foreign countries with a view to moving his whole family out of Russia.

We already knew he was a violent warlord, unpopular with the local Chechens and was in poor health. Perhaps he overstretched himself and made too many enemies :unsure:.

All very good points.

They'll be nobody surprised when it's reported he's mysteriously died in a few months.

Moscow closed its airports earlier today due to drone attacks. Surely worrying and embarrassing for Putin in the lead up to his weekend party. Worrying too for ordinary Muscovites who increasingly see signs of the war being brought to them.
