We really need Chelsea to finish 6 or lower, as if they win the Conference an extra place is available for League positions.
Which is why First losing yesterday to Brentford was doubly annoying
Yes I think so. The know-alls on Talksport are saying if its a ManU/Spurs EL final then we will have 10 teams in Europe next season, assuming Chelsea win the ECL. Palace sadly have a say whether its the top 8 or top 9.

I believe that Chelsea would need to finish 7th or lower for the extra place to be awarded to another team.
The top 5 qualify for the Champions League
6th place is an automatic entry to the Europa League.
Chelsea need to finish outside of those positions for the place to be passed on.
That is my understanding anyway!

And it is correct.
If Chelsea qualify for Conference league from league position, then an additional place is awarded to the Premier League as the spot is available.
If they qualify for Europa or UCL, then their place for winning UCL is vacant and will be taken by the next best from that competition, NOT the Premier League.

Now, if Chelsea were to finish eighth then the normal Conference League place comes back into play, meaning the sixth and seventh would be Europa League qualifiers, Chelsea would get into the UEL as Conference League winners and ninth place in the Premier League would be a path into the Conference League (so 10 teams overall). But Enzo Maresca’s side are nine points ahead of eighth with four games remaining, so this all feels very unlikely — even if Chelsea do have a tough run of fixtures to end the season.

So you’re saying the battle for eighth is the new battle for fifth?
Very much so, unless Palace spoil everyone’s fun by winning the FA Cup a week before the Premier League ends. No, if Chelsea finish 6th or 7th (assuming Palace lose the Cup), then they are UEL and 8th gets Conference.
If Palace win the Cup then they take one of the two UEL spots, Conference spot moves up to 7th.
There is only a bonus spot available if Chelsea win the Conference and finish below the Europa qualification spots in the PL (not going to happen).
What it boils down to - we have to finish 8th and become City fans for the Cup final.
Nice to see we're not the only ones thinking that way.....
