Sad news indeed.
Saw them support U2 in front of a raucous home Welsh crowd at Cardiff Arms Park in '87, then at Hammersmith and at Greenbelt Festival.
Easy to pigeonhole them in the banal 80s stadium rock genre, but as mentioned above, many songs had sharp political lyrics.
They remembered where they came from and who they represented.
And Mike Peters communicated that authenticity with his vocals.

It really was. With the game at a rugby stadium, fittingly it was almost like an old 4 Nations with that line up.also there at Cardiff Arms Park in 87. Great gig.
Same here. Status Quo were in the same line-up. Never a fan, but they were good live as were all of them.RIP.
Saw them just the once, on the Queen at Wembley line-up just after INXS who opened.
