Sad news - I knew that he had a long battle with cancer but hadn't seen the latest update.

Sad news indeed.

Saw them support U2 in front of a raucous home Welsh crowd at Cardiff Arms Park in '87, then at Hammersmith and at Greenbelt Festival.

Easy to pigeonhole them in the banal 80s stadium rock genre, but as mentioned above, many songs had sharp political lyrics.

They remembered where they came from and who they represented.

And Mike Peters communicated that authenticity with his vocals.

"Going out with my heart wide open
Going out with my hands held high
GOING OUT IN A BLAZE OF GLORY..."

Very sad news.

RIP.
Gutted. Saw him fronting the ironically named 'Dead Men Walking' some years ago.
Charismatic, an ear for an anthem, and seemed like a really nice bloke

The raw original version of unsafe building.

It really was. With the game at a rugby stadium, fittingly it was almost like an old 4 Nations with that line up.

U2 (Ireland)
The Pretenders (England)
The Alarm (Wales)
The Silencers (Scotland)

Other than the headliners then as the biggest band in the world, the reception that the Alarm got from that Welsh crowd that July day was electric.

Happy memories on a sad day.

I remember he was Big Country's lead singer for a period, some years after Stuart Adamson died. One of my favourite bands of that era.
RIP

Very sad news.
Saw them supporting U2 at the Hammersmith Palais in (I think) 1982 and they were excellent.
Top bloke and The Alarm never got the credit they deserved for the music they produced. The fans will remember though.
RIP.
