Brighton
Fulham are above us now but they allowed Utd to do the double over them; drew at home to Southampton; drew home and away with Ipswich; and were thumped at home by Wolves. Quite a few dropped points there
We have also spectacularly dropped points from winning positions against Everton and Wet Spam. On the other hand, we've picked up a lot of points from losing positions. Sunday was probably my favourite.

Before Forest or rather Everton we were unbeaten in 7, with draws v Villa and Arsenal and 4-0, 3-1 and 2-0 wins. or 13-5 in our favour.
Pre Forest 7 games gave us 9 points from 18 as one was a cup game. Only 2 of those 7 were above us in the league.

Post Forest 7 games gave us 13 points from 15 as two were cup games. All bar Southampton were above or around us.

Taking the cup games out of the mix its 13-4 in our favour over 5 games post Forest and 8-5 in our favour over 6 games pre forest.

Which ever way you look at it, the 7 games post Forest thrashing have been the best we have performed this season

Sussex but not by the sea
This scenario really frustrates me as I feel we should be closer to the top 4 than we are.

The season was a real mixed bag until the Forest thrashing. That game looked like it had opened our eyes...The following game we changed things up. We were more compact, sat deeper, defended as a unit and attacked really quickly with purpose.
The following 7 results post thrashing ended 17-6 in our favour. This new way of playing very clearly suited us.
Forest then rolled up again and we change it back to the pre thrashing way of play and we have been poor again since.

We found the formula and then deserted it again. Why?
The first time = Dunk was brought back in too early when JPvH and Igor were doing very well, then Igor got injured.
The second time = JPvH and Webster were doing very well, then Webster got injured.

How wouldn’t we deserve it if we finished high enough to secure Europe? We either get enough points or we don’t, shirley?
It still amazes me how people don't understand how the league system works. It's like the old "luckily there were three worse teams than us" in Hughton's last season. Again, that's the point of a league.

Crazy and wildly frustrating that a season's work can be blown in one disastrous week. Maybe less. In our hearts, I think most of us knew after the Forest game that the season had gone.

Had that shoot out gone differently, maybe momentum could have got us through the two very even games which followed. Ah well, who knows

Hearts are intellectually handicapped.

Look at the table and the number of points remaining with your brain instead and you'll find the season is far from over.

It wasn't just the defeat

It was the loss of players which hit us harder, the psychological blow of going out like that also

Sure we might still qualify for a minor European competition. But are these even worth entering since the UCL expanded? The extra games will likely do us more harm than good

You'll find a lot of us think so

Villa and Newcastle have tough games to finish (after villa's game at saints this weekend) but, they step up to the task of the big games, we haven't lately. The best for us is Europa League me thinks starting with beating Leicester! Don't win that and we can kiss it goodbye(not mathematical of course).
1 things for sure, if we do still qualify for Europe then absolutely we'd deserve it. With so many good challenging teams in the mix and, with our current injury crisis, we'd have done pretty bloody well to finish in a European spot.

We might catch Chelsea, or Newcastle, or Man City or Aston Villa but it seems extraordinarily unlikely that we’d catch three of them.

Personally I think it was the loss of Webster.
We were defensively so much more secure with him organising the defence.

Impossible to prove, but I don't see us conceding both the Palace goals with him in the team.
Possibly not the Villa ones either.

Hate to say it but could our squad do with another season without European football? I could see Bournemouth and Fulham struggling (& possibly even Forest) with the increased workload. We probably have more evenly distributed squad depth compared to our last go at it, but possible Thursday eve games are a bit of a killer.
Yeah another season to improve, then our best players will be sold and then the cycle starts again
